Is this speech for high school or college? Is it informative or can it be more personal. In either case, bring your bike to the classroom as a visual. A well done speech about the history of flatland or bmx would be cool, highlighting some of the big moments in bmx over the last 10 - 15 years or so. Making references to some poplular names in the game would be good, because people will be pulled into your speech a little more because it's something familiar to them. Lead into where it is today and how riding applies to your life. just an idea.

begin by showing how simple is a bike, how much can be done with it, and how it changes your life, then follow some history and legendary names.

Flatland.....How can i say this? It cant be explained. Flatland is a sport, but more of an artform than anything. Flatland is a BMX eye-candy. Your bike is your paintbrush, your mind is your inspiration, and your riding is the painting. Flatland pushes emotions that you've probably never felt and without a doubt in my mind is the hardest sport to date. Their are riders that have ridden for years and are NO WHERE near pro. Flatland requires balance, practice, skill, patience, and alot of motivation. Many flatlanders that have ridden for at least a year get a drive. (A natural need to accomplish a trick.)
Flatland is misunderstood. ENTIRELY. It doesn't have a direct definition or meaning. Yet the outcome is clearly known, "Accomplishment and pure mental and physical balance." Many flatlanders are criticized for riding kids bikes and "wasting their time". What pushes a flatlander to ignore this and go on with their riding? Just ask one (brenden insert your motivation here)...............................

Yeah, negative 6 ounces.....taking it off your bike will actually make your bike HEAVIER...

you will probably have to do some research but I think it would be cool to explain how it started and where it is now.

what was once considered a crazy trick is barely considered a trick by todays standards. freestyle/flatland started out with just a bmx bike. no special mods or pegs or zero offset. lots of people used coaster brakes for flatland. that is what seperated a freestyler from a racer, a freewheel or a coasterbrake.

then talk about how now it's very specialized. a flatland bike is hard to do anything else but flat on. in comparison to the mid 80's when one bike was used for vert and flat and wedge ramps.

something along those lines anyways.
