don't worry man, your not a pain in the ass. most of the people on here will be happy to help another rider out.

anyway, for your first jump it should be as big as you feel comfortable with.
i would start by piling up as much dirt as you can, about 4-5 feet if you can. build two piles of dirt fairly close to each other, maybe about 5 feet apart.
then pack the dirt down really good and water it in.
after that, shape the lip so its a smooth transition and not too tight, and with the dirt you took off from shaping either make the lip bigger if you want to, or make the landing wider.

just start small, you can always make your jumps bigger when you get better at riding them.

one last tip. i do this, but i don't really see many other people doing it.
dig off the grass around where you are going to dig/build jumps.
yes, it is a lot of hard work but it does make digging easier because you don't get grass in your jumps and if you want to move something there is no layer of grass under it. and you can lose a lot of dirt in the grass around your jumps, but if there is no grass you can just scoop the dirt back up and put in onto your jumps. and it looks better.

man if u only startin out i would start small but allow your jumps to have room to expand. I think that a 2 ft jump is good for begginers cuz u can learn how to pull up and how to land without casing and all of that stuff. anyways when u get comfortable buildin it jus keep buildin it bigger and bigger untill its like 5ft or 6ft high. and then when u are really good u can build a six pack of 7-8footers. if u want to jus build a 5ft jump go ahead, but u jus gonna eat shit really bad. jus remember that your jumps will pack alot, so if u build em 5ft high they will be 5ft at first but after a few runs it will get smaller and smaller untill its hard as concrete, then u can jus keep addin dirt till it gets to the height u want.. i hope that helped

when i first started riding trails i thought id start small. don't. at least if your building them yourself then don't cause u'll get bored of them after like two runs over them. build a fairly big one. then you can keep using it even after you're used to it.

well i dont know about all you guys but when i started out, i made a 4 1/2 foot jump and its not that bad, but unlike small jumps, if your learning on biger jumps and you fall its probably going come with more pain

Its all about the trails!

Beggining? 1-2 feet tall with a like 5 foot gap. :D

Next jump you make should be a lil steeper, a lil taller, and a lil bigger gap.

I am going to stay relatively quiet.
