hey now i feel a bit off posting this because quite frankly i cant even air a quarterpipe, all i can do is the rotation on a bunnyhop 180 (having trouble with the back pedal) and air dirt jumps. (i race) for starters bunny hops, and from there go to your local park (preferably at night {unfortunately fellow bmxers, as it is my experience, dont like people new to the sport} cause there is no one there) drop in dont freak out just do it, and try the stuff you see people doing. frankly the pioneers of bmx didnt have anyone to help them, i mean ive been riding for a year without any in-person help and im at the point i am now so i guess this is bad advice but just try it. if youve got pegs try and bunny hop onto the ledge at your local park and try and grind it. buy a bmx video and examine the riders in it closely see what they do get pumped and go throw down what youve got!

and hey if anyone has any advice on airing a quarter pipe reply i could really use some advice!!!!

First off, welcome to you both. I love to see new riders trying to learn.

A how-to video, like this one: http://www.danscomp.com/801228.php?cat=VIDEOS should work much better than we could tell you briefly here. I don't like to point people to Dan's comp though because they're not rider owned, but they're the ones I found with the video.

Anyways, what Existordie said is pretty accurate. Riding is really the only way to get better. You'll know when you're comfortable to take things a step up. However the best way to get better is to push your comfort level just a little more than you'd like, all the time. Wear your pads and you'll get good quick. Less time hurt and/or worrying about getting hurt, the more time riding and progressing. Trust me, knee pads work out well in the long run.

Also if you can get a friend or two into riding, you can help each other learn. It's easier to see a mistake when you're watching a trick then when you're doing it. Give each other pointers and advice, learn together and you will all progress together.

Most of all have fun! :)

Well as I dont think I am very "expert" (I am brand new to this site) I cant say much, but I am going to elaborate on what NickABusey said. If you do not push your comfort level, you will not go anywhere. From years of riding I have learned that if you simply just do stuff that you are not afraid to do, you wont advance your skills. If you feel scared crapless when you are about to try something, its good. you are improving, because you are pushing your comfort level. Google video also works wonders. Watch some videos to get pumped before you go out riding and if you need help look up how to videos. Im sure the one that was linked is better, but temporarily hot-to videos on google will suffice.

As for airing the quarter pipe, existordie, can you do a 180 on flatland? When i was learning to do that my 2 biggest problems were 1) I would not even turn in the air, for some reason it didnt feel natural and didnt feel like I should be doing that. And 2) You go up vertical, you turn vertical, and you land vertical. I fell on my back all the time because again it didnt feel natural to not flatten out in the air. I had to force myself to turn while staying at the same angle I went up at.

Hope this helped both of you.
