Does getting a petition signed help at all in your experience or is it a waste of time? Seems like it couldn't hurt if you had a list of riders who want to ride a park with you when you meet with the council?

Getting a petition signed will generally help with most things when you're talking to a council like that. I'd say it's worth it.

Petitions can be a very effective supplementary measure, to everything that wethepeople said. Going to city council meetings by yourself is no where near as effective as going with a list of several hundred names, addresses and signatures of people who support bikes in the skatepark. On top of that, take as many bikers as you can get to go with you. Trust me, when their small, usually empty city council room fills up with a bunch of kids saying they want to ride their bikes, these people usually listen. The key though, is that you really need to demonstrate that this is a wide spread desire, and it's not just "you wanting to ride where you shouldn't be allowed". - Nick Busey
