You can't compare ford sales to video game sales... The number of systems sold is historically the benchmark for what system will be dominant.... also keep this in mind... just because the ps3 has better graphics in no way shape or form means it has better games... If the system sales don't pick up to a reasonable pace, the game developers that still are making games for the ps3 will bail out... which they lost a lot of before the system even launched, because of market analysts predictions(which came true mind you). Why would someone make games for a system that hardly anyone uses? You have to think of it like that... The best graphics has never won a console war... turbo graphics 16, sega cd, dream cast, jaguar, 3do.... all far superior to any other systems of their time... but because of their price, no one bought them... and because no one bought them... the game developers didn't make games for them... whats the point in having the fastest most powerfull system if theres no good games to play on it... its an $800 paper weight!
No company is going to make games for a system that wont bring them in a profit.. game makers have to make so many copies of a game and actually sell it to make a profit... now do you really think developers are going to keep making games for the ps3, if the sales don't improve? look what happened to the dreamcast.... by and far the most powerful game system of its time... again... the sales didn't take off that well... and all the game developers said fuck it... the game developers aren't going to make games for a system if theres not a large enough audience to ensure a profit for making a game for that system...

and just because the ps3 is by and large a good deal for what your getting doesn't mean its really a good deal in the long run... no games = no fun... no fun = waste of $800.....

Nintendo went with efficiency this time, and I find that will help them a lot... The graphics are a bit sub-par from the 360 and ps3... but its still good enough that the games look better than the older xbox and game cube.. but they made up for it with inovation...  Sony went a bit overboard with the ps3... Its been said by people at sony that they don't think all of the features built into the ps3 will ever be used... so your paying a lot of money for extra stuff that doesn't even need to be there.... blue ray??? phss who the fuck buys that stuff? the image quality isn't really all that better... the movie sales are in the ditch... and the movie has to be recorded in high def to even see a difference.... 10 cores??? ok, lets multiply the complexity of the development cycle by 10 and eat into the game developers profit....  Sonys said numerous times that they doubt any company will ever utilize all 10 cores... so whats the point of paying for all that extra crap if its never gonna be used? its just an inconvienience and a diss-service to the customer to sell them something thats they will never use.... all of that extra power just wasn't worth it.... in economics theres a principal called opportunity cost...... I think sony went above and beyond their opportunity cost....

"video games all childish? maybe, but i think there are big differences between games say like metal gear solid and gears of war versus something like mario party or donkey kong." Yeah, there are differences, especially in who wants to play what. People my age (21+) prefer Super Mario Galaxy and Super Samsh Bros. because most of us don't waste our lives in front of the television playing games, while children (under 18) want the same games as you.

lol right..... somebody's emotion seems to be getting the better of them.  so it is only kids under 18 that desire games like gears of war, assassin's creed, or metal gear solid 4????? lol listen to what you are saying, it is completely rediculous.     so you don't waste your life in front of the tv screen playing video games.  good.  oh wait whats that?  4226 posts? lol that is pretty much 10x's what i have posted (and i have been around since backlash bmx days). it sure  sounds like someone is wasting a hell of a lot of time in front of a computer.  seriously, stop being a nintendo homer....

Lets see. Been on this board about four years. That's 1,000 posts a year, about 80 a month. Lets just round that up to 3 posts a day. Yeah, that takes a good two or three hours.

Theres going to be more than just kids games out for the wii.... in fact... most of the games that are out for it I would not really label kids games.... sure a lot of them can be played by children, but the audience for most of the games is by and large just about anyone.... Theres a lot of violent games coming out for it.... mortal kombat armageddon is coming out soon, soul calibur 4, medal of honor, and even final fantasy has lost its way from the ps3 release list and onto the wii....
Don't be sour at jowee cause the ps3 might not make out as it was hyped up....
To be all honest with you... I trust what the guys on wall street say.... Those guys did all the math and factored the variables... They saw the sales suffering before it ever came out or sony ever announced problems with the blue ray diode manufacturing.
The price for it is the real killer.... You can't just ignore what your competition is doing... especially that close of competition... microsoft went pretty high and consumers were a lil peeved about the price of that, sony wanted to go higher... and nintendo low balled all of them.... Gas prices have effected every house hold in the country this year.... people know now a days that most of the good games will be out on all the systems... so they will go with efficiency over top end... To really use the ps3 as it was intended, only a small portion of the population will really have the capabilities to even do that... so a lot of the main selling points of the ps3 are worthless.... No hdtv, blue ray is a waste that could cut the price of the system in half.... if you don't have an hdtv you have no need for watching blue ray movies cause you wont see any difference over regular dvd... no hdtv, the graphics don't look that much better than an xbox 360.... so your really spending extra money for features you probly wont be able to take advantage of.... and even the people at sony have said they doubt developers will ever take advantage of the more high end features.... which makes that extra $ in the price tag useless.... Its an easy rip off for people that fall into the "sucker born every minute" penominon....
sell you stuff you'll never need or use and mark it up for sheer gullability factor.... sony is completly banking on there being a sucker born every minute to buy their meaningless feature rich console... and I don't think theres enough dumb people to put them at the top...

I found this today.... apparently sony designed the ps3 to crash on purpose.... http://www.destructoid.com/playstation-3-kiosks-freezing-up-on-purpose--28860.phtml
Supposedly its just the kiosks.... but my friends ps3 locks up after about an hour and a half of playing... so I don't think it is just the kiosks... The ps3 was very poorly designed from a heat disipation perspective... Theres not very much for air flow through the unit and it gets hot enough to cook on.... My friend is looking into an aftermarket cooling unit for it to keep it from locking up... I told him to pitch it in the garbage.... I really don't find it acceptable for a game console to be over heating because you need to buy a after market cooling unit to keep it running... Thats actually what the guys at sony's customer service told him to do... they actually told him to buy an aftermarket cooling unit... How whack is that?
sony really needs some restructuring...

Ive played both PS3 and Wii....Wii is excellent and the PS3 is just The PS2. I dont know who would want to spend 600$ on that thing.

Well... just as predicted by the guys on wallstreet....
http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=13747
the demand for the ps3 has plummeted..... I was just at best buy and they had 10 of them on the floor...
still no nintendo wii's in stock anywhere though....
If the demand has gotten this weak this fast, I really don't see a ps4 in sony's future..

I must say, I'm one of the early adopters of the PS3. I have a 360 and plan on getting a Wii at a later date. So I am far from being any kind of fanboi when it comes to video game consoles. I will, however, put in a good review for the PS3 simply because I think a lot of people just want to hate. Sure, it's expensive...sure, it's in low supply...sure, you need an HDTV to really take advantage of the higher resolutions. But honestly, for me...it was all worth it. So far, I've been enjoying Resistance. I've played the single player game and online multiplayer and was satisfied. It's nothing like Battlefield 2 but it's good enough to satisfy my need to frag someone. I've enjoyed playing NBA 07 with my girlfriend's son. I downloaded some good demos that makes me want to buy the games when they come out: Motorstorm and Gran Turismo HD.

My girlfriend(who isn't a video geek) noticed a HUGE difference between Blu Ray and standard DVD titles. The Blu Ray feature was a factor in why I wanted a PS3. Using the Wi-Fi feature of the PS3 makes it easier and cleaner(one less cord to worry about). Even browsing the internet worked out alright on it.

As for Final Fantasy games...well, I seriously doubt the Wii will get Final Fantasy 13 on it. Another reason why I wanted the PS3. Until Nintendo can prove to me they are willing to support japanese role playing games(genre I mostly play), I just won't be too excited for it other than playing some of their first party games such as Metroid, Zelda(as is, I might even consider buying the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess)...and....hrmmmm...guess that's it for now. I've never been a big Mario party fan nor am I impressed with the new Mario game coming out for the Wii. Actually, I'm just not sold on the Wii-mote just yet. True, the Nintendo DS sold well and continues to see innovated game play with the stylus..but at the same token, I'm still not sold on the DS either. I don't picture myself using a gimmicky control scheme when I want to relax and play games in front of my tv. I think the only gimmicky control I'd ever use is the guitar while playing Guitar Hero. Other than that, I don't want to have to wave a magic want or imaginary sword while playing games. Sure, Dance Dance Revolution was fun which required you to be active but I don't play that for long periods of time. I'd really like to see how game developers take advantage of the Wii-mote in their games. Nintendo will always make AAA first party games...will this hold true for 3rd party games for the Wii? It's all about 3rd party support or else you'll end up having another N64 or Gamecube. Again, right now...it's all too gimmicky for me to buy into it.

Anyway, back to the PS3...I have no regrets spending that kind of money on a hobby I enjoy. Funny when people say that the PS3 will die. Just because it's not selling now doesn't mean it's a bust. I'm sure plenty of people are doing the "wait and see" game. Sure, metal gear solid isn't an exclusive title for the PS3...but what will matter is it will be available exclusively on the PS3 for a year before the 360 version comes out. That might generate enough momentum for the PS3 to justify the "next gen" hype. I wouldn't worry so much about lack of games either. The japanese gamers are very loyal fans when it comes to Nintendo or Sony. That fact alone will guarantee plenty of games to come out for it. For many years now, the console that has the most japanese RPGs is the console I favor most. Sony managed to take that crown away from Nintendo. Sure, Square Enix managed to release a few exclusive "Final Fantasy" titles on the Gamecube...but I must say, Crystal Chronicals wasn't really compelling enough for me to play through. There might have been others but they don't even come close to the Final Fantasy 7 or Final Fantasy 12.

Is the PS3 perfect...No. It could definitely use improvements when it comes to their online features. But I am sure those improvements will come when firmware updates are released. It's very similar to the 360's features. But you have to give a hand to MS for making online a big focus, and that's why they still hold the crown when it comes to online gaming on the consoles. But I will give props for the PS3 as I was able to play Resistance online out of the box. Heck, it was even neat to have a simple ranking system in Gran Turismo HD so I can compare how well I performed with other players. It was cool to even download demos of the top 10 players' games and view them. That sort of thing reassures me that Sony isn't taking online lightly as it did during the PS2 years.

Although Sony is taking a lot of crap from the media and consumers...you can't ignore the Playstation brand. Heck, look at EA. You have to admit, until recently...most of the sports titles sucked compared to other sports games. But people still bought it because they were familiar with the EA brand. And the simple truth is...no matter how much you love to hate Sony, it will be successful.

1.) I love these so called "statistics" that prove Sony will fail.   LOL it has only been 1 month, these so called stats being referenced are meaningless. If you flipped a coin 3 times, landed on heads twice, would you conclude that you would land on heads 66% of the time if you flipped the coin 1000 times?  of course not, it would be absurd.  short term statistics are most of the time simply  worthless.   Nintendo is notorious for having extremely poor 3rd party support and it will be their achille's heel once again.  im not a wii fanboy, so please can you tell me some big name titles that are going to be on the wii that are not Nintendo Franchise names like mario, metroid, etc?  The novelty of the Wii will wear off fast.  Like socal said, the wii and its remote are cool for a little while, but after a long time it just gets annoying.  Sure nintendo may have had the jump out of the gate (because of larges supplies), but the video game console war is not a sprint it is a marathon, and Nintendo is already FAR FAR behind.

2.)  You know what the funniest part of this whole stupid argument is?   The PS2 still sells more consoles than the 360, ps3, and the wii.  Nintendo has to make up some serious ground to cover all that it lost on its massive failure that became known as the gamecube which only sold a paltry 20 milion units in 4+ years (compare that to the 105 million PS2 ).  If the wii fails, you might as well kiss your precious Nintendo goodbye.  Nintendo would be delegated to only making games like Sega and probably hand held gaming devices like the gameboy.  You say the PS3 sucks because it is to difficult for game makers to program for?   Well I certainly don't see game makers rushing to the wii with the elite titles....   Face it, Nintendo has had no 3rd party support for a long time and probably won't either for the Wii.  This is a HUGE drawback for the wii.
