I just got one those chain e mails with all the "did ya know" kind of statements.

It had this one which i thought was smart

"MINE!!!
If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips on.  If the bike is stolen and later recovered, remove the grip and there is your proof who owns the bike."

I thought it was a good idea.  Maybe in the seat tube even.  Where ever your info might fit were thieves would not think to check.

that'd be fine, but...
if ...
thieves knew about, they might be able to zap it
there was one small enough to fit inside...and take the hits from riding
it was cheap enough
there were no weight freaks :-P

anyway...

hmm, ive heard of some little clear stick dot things, its like barcoding your bike, and they can identify from these.
also ive heard people on here talk about how they do this, i want to bu keep forgetting to
but yeah not the first to come up with it, but yeah its a good idea.
but dont chainmail, those chainmail wankers are fucks, it pisses me the hell of as i try to avoid geting as much spam as possible, and i get all this bullshit, and its not like you can even read half whats there.

Its a good idea to put something in there. Or like carve your address under the grips. So they couldnt ever remove it, unless they sanded the bars, after removing the grips.

the best ive heard of is putting your information on a sheet of paper then putting one of those plastic protective sheet covers over it and putting it in your seatpost.

Having your bike stolen is terrible, the problem with leaving something in it is that THEY HAVE TO FIND IT

I had a bike with one of the most reconigizable paintjobs and colored parts, yet no one has found it... It sucks/sucked soo bad

I would love to do the GPS thing like they do to dogs

I heard of that back in the early 80's.  Good idea, but if they took your bike and stripped it, all you you have claim to is the bars or frame.  Unless you put it in every nook and crannie of your bike.
