I don't think too many flatlanders concider themselves good... theres always room for improvement... Which is what pushes progression....
The definition of a good flatlander differs from person to person...
some say its what tricks you can do...
some say its the links you can do
some say its how dialed you are...
some say its your trictionary(number/variety of tricks you can do)....
some say its your ability to equally perform on both wheels...
some say its your ability to do everything you can do switch and opposite...
some say its how long you can string your links together...
some say its all of the above... although not many people fall into the all of the above category..

its too broad of an opinion...

Jason Brown said it takes 3 hours of riding every day for years on end to get good.

Just depends on how good you want to get I suppose.

Dont worry about "getting good". Just ride and youll feel good every time you learn a new trick.

Yeah, basically all of the above. When I'm at the skatepark, skaters and BMXers think a Steamroller is totally awesome, whereas a mere Steamroller compared to the Pro Flatland Ranks is merely a basic trick.

It differs. I don't think i'm very good. :|

I felt okay about my riding when I finally learned tailwhips (the first trick I tried to learn). Learning fork glides and backwards peg wheelies and squeekers were fun to learn, but I didn't feel like I was getting good.
When I dialed in hang 5's and steamrollers I started feeling like I had the potential to get good, and when I started linking tricks (basic ones albeit) I started feeling good about my riding. I didn't think I was great or anything, but I felt like I had passed the beginner stage, and had some links I could pull off 10/10 times really smooth every time.
Now I'm preparing for the CPA exam, and riding maybe once every week or two, so I don't have a wide range of tricks, and haven't dialed a new link in over a year at least. I just ride for fun, even if I take that one day every few weeks where I have time to ride and just do tricks I have dialed, just to try to be smooth and not worry about trying anything new and difficult.
You will feel good about your riding every time you learn a new trick I'm sure, but when you first start linking more than 3 or 4 tricks together it's an even better feeling. As far as getting to where you can compete with the top ams, that will take years of really dedicated riding, and will limit you as far as other things you can do in life. Some may disagree with me, but I would have failed out of my accounting program at my university if I was still riding everyday.

It's more a matter of getting better than getting good.

On that note... Id like to say... You can get as good as you want to... if you want to be the best... you have to put in the time to be the best... its as simple as that... The better question is "How willing are you to get good?"
