Where do you plan on going. Cost of living varies from place to place.

Sydney for example is probably the most expensive place to live in Australia, while where I live is one of the most affordable places in the country.

I know a couple people that have done what you're doing but going to japan instead of Aus.

Basically, save a ton of money.

you'll need money for the plane ticket, money for an apartment, but before you have an apartment you'll need money for a hotel/motel.  try and find a rider or a friend in the area that you're planning on moving and see if they'll let you stay at their place a bit until you can get a place of your own to live.  it'll make things a lot cheaper.  Try and learn as much as you can about the area so you're not totally lost when you get there. (very important with coming to japan, I dont know how different Australia will be.)  you'll also need money for school - tuition, books, other things.  and dont forget about food.

a friend of mine came from canada and stayed at my house before going off to his final destination of Nagoya, and I think it was great for him.  My family is all english speaking and so even though he was in japan, he was able to still have people show him around the area and the customs in his first language.  It'd be an advantage to have someone in Australia show you around so you dont feel like a fish out of water.

right now you dont even know what school you want to go to, so work on that first.  then it'll give you an idea of exactly how much college is going to cost the first year, then add in cost of living, and plan on it taking a few weeks to find a job.

I plan on going there for exchange in university. Our school has a program set up so you pay there rates and living expenses and it only cost you the plane ticket to go there for 4 months.

Dorms are actually more expensive, in the us, then renting an apartment... But dorms are nice because its all inclusive. LIke i pay for my dorm and that includes money on my meal card, water, bathroom, phone, cable, and internet

Plus dorming is a bunch of college students, you might meet some hot chicks there too..

Good luck to you

Living on campus is fairly expensive over here but does include the amenities.

I lived on campus for a while when i was in university in brisbane. It really depends on what kind of life you are into. If you just want to become one of those people that just lives for uni, and doesnt really get out and see anything, living on would be fine. Its a fair bit different to living in a normal house among the "natives".

Sydney is fucking expensive though. I only live here because i have to for work. Brisbane is great for tourists and such. So is Perth. Adelaide is good too, but it's cold and not as Tropical i guess.

I added you to MSN if you want to ask me any questions....
