I just scanned through the lastest issue at my local bookstore and without amazement Ride magazine has suffered in content quality for the past several years. I have been involved with BMX since around 1984 and have viewed every type of BMX publication and must say Ride BMX US offers no particular reason to spend 3.99 on their publication. Why is Ride UK such a dramatic difference in layout/size?

I subscribe to it, read it, enjoy it and contribute to it. I like it. There's no excuse for being a dickhead.

The last time I picked up that magazine it seemed to be heading towards the "70% filler 30% content" production like all the video game magazines have done... Its sad that you pay for 9 or 10 pages of content and get 25-30 pages of ads.... is there more filler in it now than there was 8 months ago? I'll support dans comp till bmx companies start selling direct to their customers...

Every issue of Ride US's content seems to rely too heavily on the same already overdone "street rider roadtrip" article. "We drove here, had a hard time riding here, got busted here, so and so pulled this crazy rail first try here". It's like "wow, didn't this same exact crap happen to a different group of guys last month?". Like previously stated, this isn't annoying just on a flatland level... but from every other aspect of bmx riding I'd find this content to be narrow-minded in it's approach. Reading an issue of Cream just drives the point home even more; it outclasses Ride US in almost every way: design/layout, balanced content, photography, significance of the news and events it reports on... it's almost like Cream is what the next evolutionary step of Freestylin' would've been if it kept going. BMX Plus! is also doing a great job of covering the sport as a whole, and it's funny because I sometimes even find the race coverage in Plus! more interesting then the stuff in Ride. ![]()
