If it happens it happens, but I'm not going to be drafted.

There is always some sort of plan for carrying out a draft if it became necessary, but it isn't happening any time soon.

Just last year, in October of 05 I believe, may have been sooner, a draft bill was turned down by congress, and approximately a year before that, another was turned down.

Both were turned down by LANDSLIDE votes. This draft bill is even more insane then the other 2 were, this one states that all persons, male and female, between the ages of 18 and 42 (yes, 42) will be required to serve blah, blah, blah....

What the hell are we going to do, empty 75% of our nations workforce for a draft? Yeah, that will help our countires needs.... What about all of the people that have established lives with wives, kids, homes, long term careers, etc. Chnces of this actually passing are slim to none.

The funniest part is the guy that introduced this is the SAME one that introduced last years proposed draft bill, Charles Rangel. He was defeated last year by a vote of "402 against" to "2 in favor of," he himself voted against his own bill... Actually, the true funniest part of it is his reasoning, at least on last years proposal. He stated that he wanted to reinstate a draft for the reason that there are too many minorities in the military, and not enough white color bred people. He was saying that people from lower class areas are more prone to join the military then a person who comes from an "rich" area, so it should be made that all people are forced to go to the military instead of just the poor and less fortunate people in the US.

He is out of his mind and I for one would not lose sleep over yet another draft proposal. It may happen, but it is a slim to none chance, and even if it did, the revolts and protests of a mandatory draft for all persons between 18 and 42 would be out of this world. The key point being the age range involved.

I wonder if Charles Rangel is in this age range?!  Not knowing too much about US politicians I wouldn't know that myself ;)

Those are myths. See for yourself at the governments Selective Service Systems website, www.SSS.gov. />

Only one bill was actually voted down; HR 163, which is pretty much the same as this bill. The other bill was a Senate bill, S. 89. It was never voted on, so was "dead" when the Senate session ended for the year.

These bills are a good thing. They have absolutley no chance of becoming law, but they increase awareness of the war and the circumstances surounding it.

I'm not at all surprised that he voted against it himself. Politicians will raise issues that they have no intention of voting for, just to raise opposition to an issue by introducing a rediculous bill.

I believe that when the Federal Reserve was designed by the rich bankers in the country, they went around the country trying to rally against it to make everyone think that if these rich guys are against it, it must be a good thing for the common, blue collar guy. In their case it worked perfectly: The Fed was created, and the NYC banks maintained all the wealth that had been starting to disperse to other banks around the country.
So this strategy is definitely not unheard of.
