Are there any modern bands that use regular basses? (not electric)

I heard some guy jamming on one today and it sounded pretty sweet.

i play on my acoustic bass constantly, its one of the best purchases i ever made. i used to play the electric enough you know but with the acoustic, you can bring it anywhere without an amp, and at home you can just pick it up and jam.

doesnt answer your question tho. the bassist in dashboard?

and me but thats cuz my guitarist always plays acoustic too hehe

BELA FLECK & THE FLECKTONES?

Sometimes Victor Wooten will break out a fretless or his cello, but most of the time he's electric with the Flecktones. Almost exclusively on his '83 Fodera Monarch. I played that bass once, for a minute... it was amazing.

Ben Folds Five guy uses an upright.

I'm probably going to get an acoustic bass guitar sometime soon for informal stuff, but it'll be a while before I can get an upright, unless someone gives me one. I'd have to get a 1/2 size or 3/4 size one (or electric upright), because it's a difficult transition from a 34" scale length to a... a... forty-or-fifty-something-inch scale length on a full upright.

Which is why Victor usually just uses a cello. (But not always)

Not a whole lot of upright players in a non-jazz or non-classical setting. Look for stuff by Edgar Meyer... he's an amazing upright player.
