What were the parts of choice around this time frame? I'm trying to build a copy of the first bike my older brother had (in his honor) and I'm drawing a blank on lots of the parts that were available at the time. If you were riding flat ten years ago, what did you have? thanks so much.

I have the frame fork and bars (morales/kore/kore) but I'm drawing a blank on the rest. He was struck and killed by a drunk driver two years ago and I have no idea where his bike went. He loved that thing. I'm trying to build it up using the correct parts or as correct as I can find. Does anyone have any old magazines, or know of any sites where I can find parts lists from the mid 90's? thanks so much for your help.

Some popular parts people were running back in the early/mid 90's:

Standard Shorty
HB Big Daddy
Morales Flatland frame
Kore forks
Standard forks
Big Daddy Forks
Peregrine Q Bars
Standard Strip Bars (6 piece)
Hoffman Love Handles
Profile Cranks or OG GT Power Series Cranks
Primo Tenderizer Pedals (the small ones - good luck finding those, though)
Kink Sex Drive Sprocket
Graveyard Sprocket
Graveyard OG Bars
Peregrine Super Pro front wheel (48 hole)
Suntour freecoaster w/ Peregrine back rim
GT seat
Primo Rod seatpost, or just a regular 7/8" seatpost
Standard aluminum Hand Grenades
DK stem (shafted)
Tech 77 levers
Dia compe 990 rear, Dia Compe 880 Nippon caliper up front
ACS RL Edge Tires (impossible to find though as these are still popular with flatlanders today) or Primo V Monster.
ODI Longneck grips

Good luck...I hope this helps.

it could have been a whole number of parts ... here are a few.

1 stems , DK, TNT, GT mallet, acs slant
2 wheel , peregrine super pros with a suntour rear hub
3. front break would normally have been a bulldog or diacompe nippon
4. pegs standard handgrenades
5. sprockets :: peregrine and GT
6 seat : GT or skyway hotseat

just to name a few parts

Naah Mark, you're thinking more 1990 there ;-)

'95 I was already on my Aheadset Shorty, with V-Monsters, stripbars, profiles and 36t lowrider sprocket ;-)

Are you sure Colin?
I had my custom standard frame made in 1995
and only then at that point had standard started putting aheadsets on STA frames and it then took a while untill it was mooved over to the others as people were unsure withthe design.

I agree with the strip bars as they were in the 1994 catalog (I rember chad riding them at southsea with krt schmidt and that other large guy)... i have the catalog scanned somehere and will post it up soon as i find it.

the tires v-monsters did arrive in europe in the summer of 95 or 96 (I remeber one shop in germany sold 550 tires on the first day)

as for the gearing, yes we all used shitty home made sprockets at that time as small sprockets took a long time to catch on or be widely available.
I went through so many old ladies shopping chain wheels back then, i actually threw one away 4 days ago.

If you remeber in 1997 (eindhoven - a good reference point) KHE had just had those premium lagger frames out first gen and had already gotten to 2nd gen at that point.

dragonfly and khe continued to use 1" headsets along with hoffman up untill 1999 i think on average.

HB love handles first gen came out in summer of 1996 i think (they were all crap and the grip area mooved)

profiles were definatly available back then .... almost as far back as 83 i believe.

strange though as most people including chad degroot rode 1pc cranks.

the other thing i rember back then was all the different mods we tried to make to get an aheadset work with a cable down the fork.
I gave up with it at the time and used to put my bike upside down to and sit on it to get the thing to compress.

ACS BOA brakes .. the thing with a zillion bearings that was a real pain to adjust and took hours to reassemble if it poured open..... then rob ridge made that nice conversion.... and shortly after bill nitchke helped introduce a 990 on the front.

oh wait .... and that bully hotrod thing with silly cantilver mounts on the fork and that big lump at the back 1993? .........

I have too many bike parts in my head

I just checked a copy of ride mag (US)
december 1994 ....
eveyone seemed to ride quill stems
everyone had peg mounts
day smith was still riding 44 teeh sprockets
loads of kids used gridisks
mental jimmys was still a shop
menstral cycles was comming soon
ketch made frames (if thats what you could call them)

check out some old mags if you have them as alot of things caught me by suprise like the amount of (or lack of) freestyle frames out at that time
