help! we just moved to a new house and I'm wanting to build a few jumps, berms, etc. Just wondering what kind of dirt I should ask to have delivered (don't say the brown kind, haha  ) I'd like it to pack good and make nice smooth jumps that don't just crumble apart. any ideas? amybody know what the ABA uses? thanks

Clay would be my dream dirt, I don't know but I thinl it can get super heavy. But it packs amazingly.

dirt is dirt

no dirt is not dirt. there dirt that packs really really good, that is or has a lot of clay in it. then theres dirt that sucks and wont pack at all.

LOAM.

clay sucks unless you live in a tropical area or can water it a ton, once that stuff is dry its dust, and your trails will seriously blow away if you get a week or 2 withour rain.

thanks for the replies. I called around and got more info. The local BMX track recommends sandy loam, does this sound right? the dirt haulers I called offer topsoil or sandy loam. Best price I found was $175 for 10 yards delivered. I've got about a 1/4 acre to build on, is 10 yards of dirt going to be enough? any recommendations on topsoil vs. sandy loam? thanks again

I think I got a yard of dirt before and it was like the whole back of my dad's f-250 pickup. So 10 yards should be plenty to start with.
