PA/NJ Parks posted on 2007-02-25 21:45:33

Looking for parks in central/eastern PA, NJ or DE.. I used to ride when i was younger and now trying to get my 8 y/o son into riding.. We have been up to Woodward and rode cloud 9 and lot 8 but that gets a little pricey.. We went today to the Incline Club down in Lakewood, NJ as well as Shields in NJ also.. We are down near Lancaster/Reading area of PA.. also looking for good Dirt areas also as all the places I used to ride seem all overgrown or have housing developments on them now.. Thanks for any help..

Well since he stated the redline mini I assume he is talking about a race bike.. My son has been racing a Haro SX Jr.(20") for the last two years as his race bike(he is 8 now).. Asking 8 years out of a light framed bike is not going to happen.. The rims, axles, cranks, ect.. are also lightened parts and are prone to bending.. in two years we have gone through 1 crank spindle, and 1 set of rims, along with a spocket or two..

He is now getting into riding ramps/street so after much research we just ordered him a DK Franklin 18" which is a pretty stoudt bike.. looks like it will take all the punishment he will dish out while learning to ride vert at Woodward. but time will tell., the DK goes for around 250, and the haro sx jr. was 300.. hope this helps

It is correct that the rhythm 18" has 18" tires also.. I was looking at this bike also for my 8 y/o son, who races bmx, that is getting into riding ramp/vert very soon. We decided to go with the DK 18" Franklin instead.. for a short top tube 20, might want to check into a DK cincinnati.

as for calling the 18"  cheap kids bikes, think again, The DK has the same Chromoly frame, brakes, seat post, neck, gyro, 3 pc. cranks (though mini), and rim manufacturer..  They are just designed for the smaller riders, the team rider at DK rides one and hes doin front flips, back flips, ect.. on one.. so dont hate on the smaller riders. We were looking at going with a short top tube 20, but none fit him too well at being 50" tall.. he rides a Haro sx jr. now which is a 20" but no freestyle bike came close in dimensions, and from 2 pro riders reccomendations that i emailed, i was told to stick with the 18" till he is around 56" tall.. good luck.
