Re: diffrence between hang 5, hang 10 and hang nothing? posted on 2007-04-07 22:50:16

Yes that is correct, and for a while there was trick they were calling the hang-15, where you are actually doing a rolling front yard i.e. a candy-bar type hang-5

crank length and short top tubes posted on 2007-04-07 22:47:19

I ride a DK transmitter with older Odyssey flatland forks with minimal offset, and Profile 165mm cranks. My foot hits the front tire when on the pedal. I was wondering if this is normal and how do you guys with zero offset keep from hitting the front tire?

I also run the london mod on the lower cables. It seems to be easier to dial in my brakes.

I run Primo J levers, and I don't think the Snafu will work on them. Does anyone know if the Dragonfly will work? I may be stuck using a regular upper gyro cable. I've got a couple of Odyssey narps. I'll try using those.

gyro question for 6 1/2 inchers posted on 2007-03-01 10:26:44

I've recently purchased some 6-1/2 rise bars, and I am trying to get my gyro set up. I'm only running one spacer under my stem, because it seems to me it would defeat the purpose of low rise bars to run anymore spacers. Well, if you run 6-1/2" bars you know that the top gyro cables don't work out right. I have an Odyssey GTX gyro so I could clip the ball ends of the cables and use the built in narps, but I am leary of having these frayed cable ends spinning around my gyro. So I was wondering does anyone make a narp that will fit inside a lever so that you can shorten your cable from the top and not the two bottom section?

Also, do any of you use the Dragonfly Gemini or Snafu cables? Do they work better than standard Gyro cables?

I'd like to see some pics of custom gyro set ups for 6-1/2" bars if you got them. Thanks.

Re: plastic seats posted on 2007-02-06 22:17:37

Well, today I got to watch Trevor Meyer and a coupld of local riders; Max & Joel, session at Trevor's house. Max had the KHE seat. It is hard plastic with no "grip type" feel. The seat is like the old school GT/Viscount type seats. I have two old school GT seats. I'm gonna try spraying one with the rubber undercoater. I'll post the results.

plastic seats posted on 2007-02-05 20:17:10

Is anybody currently riding either the Primo Steriod seat or the KHE Wantabe seat? If so, do either of these have a grippy feel to the seat or are they smooth like old school Viscount seats? I have an old GT plastic seat that is light and has a good feel, but being hard plastic has no grip. Do you think I could spray it with some automotive rubber undercoater and it would work? Thanks.

New projects. Chapter 3. ????

Being from the old school and having grown up during the "bashguard" frames I think this is pretty cool. It allows riders to do benchslides on their non-drive side without having to do pedal grinds.

Your thought?

Handlebar position posted on 2006-12-05 22:20:07

This may have been discussed before, if so, forgive the rehash. I was just wondering how do most flatlanders set up their handlebars? Do you run them at the same angle as your headtube or do you run them a little forward or backwards of the headtube? Which bar set up seems to work better on front wheel tricks? Thanks.

Park contest in Searcy, Arkansas posted on 2006-07-10 18:37:02

There will be a skatepark contest in Searcy Arkansas this Saturday for any riders in the central Arkansas area. Don't have the details yet, the local parks dept is putting it on. I announced the last 4 or so contest they have done, but they've changed the park and its not really that good. But if you are a local Arkansan you might check it out.

Euro bike shops posted on 2006-04-29 14:36:49

Watched the Front Brake Revolution dvd. A lot of Euro riders in it. I know that flatland is more dominant over seas. In the dvd all of the riders were running 990s on their forks (hence "front brake revolution"). Some of the guys had chrome forks with 990 mounts. Knowing that these guys are probably buying from European bike shops, I'm interested in finding some Euro shops online. Anybody have any ideas? We don't get Ride UK around these parts or I would look in there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Brake question posted on 2006-04-17 18:04:57

The flex I am talking about is when you squeeze the brakes and the pads touch the rim, you can keep on squeezing and the brake arms flex toward each other. I did change out my brake pads over the weekend, and this has seemed to help a lot. I changed from Ody 1x4s to Dia-Tech Dekkas. I've run the Dekka pads in the past, they have always worked great, but they seem to get black film on them quicker.

thanks for the info, I've placed an order for it and the new Front Brake Revolution dvd.

Am thinking of getting this dvd, I suck at flatland and want to learn some stuff. Was just wondering if anybody has this dvd? Is it worth buying, etc. etc.? Thanks.

Brake question posted on 2006-04-12 05:05:55

I am running brand new cables - Odyssey Slics - the only cables I ever run. And I use a dual cable for my back brake.

Currently I am running Odyssey 1x4s but I have the Dia-Tech Dekka pads, which I have used in the past. I like the Dekka pads they grab really good, but they seem to get that black film on them quicker than black pads. I've roughed up the pads, I take them and rub them on the grip tape of a skateboard.

I can get my brakes to stop on a dime, I'm very picky about my brakes and I want them to grab. I warn everyone that want to try my bike (cause I'm one of the few locals that runs a front brake) that the front brake will throw them over.

But last night going street riding w/ a friend and it just seemed like the arms of the brakes were flexing really bad. I will try your suggestion and run the Dekka pads again and see if that helps.

Brake question posted on 2006-04-11 19:08:52

I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I'll ask it anyway.

I've been running the same brakes for about 2 or 3 years now, Dia-Tech Hombres. Here lately the brake arms seem to flex really bad. I don't think I ever noticed it at first, but I can't stand it now. It affects how my brakes grab. Is this normal for brakes? Do they have a "shelf life", like should you change out your brakes ever so many years or something? Also, what brakes are good at resisting flex? Both the Odyssey Evolver and Primo E-brake look good, anybody using either of these that can give a critique? Thanks.

WANTED: Original Perigrine "Q" bars posted on 2006-01-28 06:42:52

I am looking for some original Perigrine "Q" bars. There were a 5 piece design much like original Haro kneesavers with an extra bar welded between the cross bars. I would prefer chrome, but will take what I can get. There are a few pics of original Perigrine "Q" bars on some old pics here http://arkbmx.tripod.com/id23.htm

Original Perigrine "Q" bars are not to be confused with Perigrine "Q" 2. The originals had the top cross bar welded between the side bars. The "Q" 2s the cross bar bent up and became the part where the grips go. If anyone has a pic from an old magazine it would help. Thanks.

New Haro Sport retro model-80's style!! posted on 2006-01-13 20:24:33

I checked into this bike at my local Haro dealer. Evidently, this bike is hotter than expected. They said that Haro was sold-out. Also, I've read some reports that some of the old school pros like Brian Blyther are now riding the 06 Haro Sport.

After looking at this bike, I think I'm gonna get one. First of all I always wanted a Haro Sport, 2ndly, from an old-schoolers point of view I'd love to have a frame with a "framestander," 14mm thick dropouts, & 1-1/4 headset.

New Haro Sport retro model-80's style!! posted on 2006-01-10 13:19:03

The original specs for a Haro Sport were:

Top Tube 20"
Headtube angle 73 degrees
Seattube angle 70 degrees
Chainstay 15 1/4"
Wheelbase 36 - 37"

I always liked the Haro Sport, never owned one - had a Diamond Back Mike Dominguez (same geometry). I got a little excited at this post till I saw that it was simply a Mirra with a frame standing platform. The closest thing I've found to an "old school" set up (with the exception of wheelbase) has been the DK Transmitter, which I ride. I'm 5'9" so the shorter top tube is easier for me.

And for those not in the know, retro bikes are really big, check out ebay. You've got a lot of guys, like me, that are old school; like the newer bikes but would love the old school look.

I might still check into getting a frame only.
