Howdie, Im in the same predicament here. Im looking to paint my G7 w/ Lardset and I am in 2 minds wether to grind em off or tape em up and take a chance and have it painted over the cups.

I think maybe the quality/material of the Standard axles have changed lately...I stripped 2 in the last year, both within a few months of each other. When I was buying them in the Uk a few years back they would last years! Now i dunno...might just be my baboon ass over tightening.

If you have tried everything else maybe give grip tape a go.
I tried all those things mentioned above but gave up, this works well, especially with newer grips.
