alright, fine! so i lied... posted on 2007-03-31 18:07:07

howdy, it's me.

been a long time away from pedal... ever since my hamstring injury, in fact... and the constant wearing down brought on by reading and moderating the same negative and repetitive stuff year after year after year.

but, it's sunny outside today... so i'm thinking riding... but i'm at work.

it's true: although my riding took a serious kick in the ass with my injury and band projects, it never really stopped. i said it before and i'll say it again: i'm a rider... i ride.you can't change that and so, to flatland i will always be greatful.

i'm all healthy, have my new endeavours in order and am looking forward to riding my ass off this year... so, i thought i'd pop by and see what's what and who's who. turns out you guys are all still here!

anyway, thought i'd say hi and hope to see you all in the lot. not sure if i'd move this to general discussion or not... so i'll just throw this in to make it legit: I STILL FUCKING HATE PUTTING ON TIRES! i've been mostly using travis' "bald" tires but finally splurged and grabbed a new wall. i swear i've been trying to get the first half on for a week! granted, i'm not wrestling it to the point of rage and throwing fits. a little bit here and there is just enough to hate every second of it.

anyway, that's my flatland portion of this post.

glad to see you're all still alive! :)

take it easy,

no... didn't know about bush then... but he's just a product of the same america that raised me. except he was in a position to eat the system up and bend it to his will. others like me don't have oil money backing us up and the system isn't designed to benefit those on the other side of the tracks. once the system gets it's teeth into you, it doesn't let go. i saw what america will do to someone once they're on the backside of the eightball. i watched it reach out to grab, grab, grab until there was nothing left to take... and then it wanted to punish because that's the only option left once all your resources are depleted.

i came to canada and they welcomed me with outstretched arms and all the assistance anyone could possibly need to better their lives. i've grown immensely in 15 years in directions i could never even dream of if i had remained at "home"... and i can say this with 100% accuracy because i left my friends and family behind and watch them struggle against the same problems today that they did 15 years ago.

i have this discussion frequently and all i can really say is this; unlike most people who talk this talk, i've actually walked this walk. so, take it from someone who lived two full lives in two different countries... if you don't like the way things are, get out. now. there is so much more out there for you than you've been lead to believe. i have the same opportunity every day to return and resume my life with my friends and family and there's no way in hell i could ever conciously agree to return... especially now that i have a 13 year old of my own here. he deserves a better life than he could ever have there.

i want to add... i'm not trash talking america. there are a lot of positives. i'm not saying i'd rather live in darfur... but i KNOW there are places that are far more agreeable to the average citizen than anything i've ever witnessed in the good ol' US of A. so, when people take the "love it or leave it" stance... maybe you ought to consider it. hell... i take it as a compliment :)

Re: praying posted on 2006-10-02 15:42:47

2 cents = ever heard of "will to power"? essentially, it's focusing your will and energy into a goal. for instance; if you focused on the task of waking up each morning at 6am without your alarm clock... in time, you will be waking up without your alarm clock every day. i'm sure a lot of you have done this and it does work.

now, lets say your every waking thought and focus is to save your money so you can buy the car you want. if you seriously focus your will to this task, in time you will have saved that money and bought that car.

lets say you're scared about the potential outcome of a doctors exam and you focus all your will into the relief from this fear... you most likely wont cure whatever you're sick from, but you may find the peace of mind needed to accept all possible outcomes of the exam.

this is what prayer is. it's the focusing of ones will to the accomplishment of a goal. there's nothing wrong with directing it toward any "god"... that's just the focus point inside the individual to direct their will towards. it makes it easier for many people to think of the focusing of their will as talking to a higher power... and in a sense, you are, wether you believe in a god or not.

so, in answer to the question of the thread... just put your will into motion against whatever it is that's troubling you. if that means taking a few minutes before you go to bed where you set your thoughts and will in motion towards this goal, then do it then. if you sit with your eyes closed while taking a crap and just ask yourself the questions, focus on the potential answers, organize your mind so that it's energy is pointed to the fulfillment of your goal... then do that. so long as you're taking the time out of all the input around you to clear your thoughts, pose the questions and focus on the answers, in time, your world will begin to bend to the will you've set against it.

then... when you've managed to manipulate your environment to the acquisition of your goals, you can attribute it to god, your own free will or whatever you like.

there's nothing wrong with prayer. we ALL do it. some of us just call it different things.

nobody needs my opinions, but they are thus:

given the option, i would support simon for his efforts.

if my friend bought the video... i would watch it... for free... and never buy my own copy.

i love flatland and i love simon but i'm broke... are only financially fit flatlanders entitled to see simons video?

who decided that riding flatland put all of us on the same moral ground? shady people ride bikes too. it's the reason i don't bother with the forums much anymore. i once believed every person riding flat was a moral zen master... the truth is, MOST of them are jackass kids who'd steal the french fries from your caffeteria lunch just to be a dick. imagine my disappointment... and yours.

the internet has already set the table for pirated distribution of EVERYTHING... who is surprised by this?

true, i would think it was lame if my video got ripped and i was sitting on 2000 copies in my closet that distributors didn't want... but i would have considered this a real risk potential of all digital media before i invested my time and money.

whatever... my real-life answer is the "i'm broke" one... i definitely wouldn't download it myself but i would definitely watch it at my friends and never buy it... not 'cause i don't think simon should get back what he put into it, but because i can't afford frivolities.

lame thread.

i'm such a lame mod i missed this "hey mods" thread!  must be all the weed in the garden...

i learned long ago that the premise of internet forums is the freedom to be a dick to whomever you like... if we moderated that, there'd be nothing left to read!

as for the suggestion that we read through every current thread once a day... when i stop laughing, i'll think of something clever to say...

steph royer's basic small town hick complete posted on 2006-08-15 09:46:39

i have steph royer's old basic small town hick for sale. it's the one he rode in the loiter and early canadians videos (it was red, green and yellow then... now it's all black). it's complete. i don't know if the forks are made by basic, but they're minimal offset with 990 mounts, basic stem, basic bars similar to the 1664 windsors except with oversize tubing everywhere but the grips, it's got profile 3-pc and chainring, the post and seat are snafu, rear 990's with a snafu lever (there are 990 mounts on the seat stays AND chain stays), it has new snafu pedals and the wheels are nothing great... freewheel rear generic hub front... but they roll nice.

the guy i have it for wants $500 canadian. you pay shipping... unless you're coming to the western canadian flatland jam... then shipping is free! :)

if you'd like pictures, send me your e-mail address... i have some semi-crappy ones shot on my cel phone. only ask if you're really interested... or if you want to host the images and put them up in this thread.

word,

here are the directions from downtown to lot A... it's official.

From downtown, take Terminal (which then turns into 1st Ave.) to the Trans Canada Hwy (No 1).  Take it east until Exit 44.  Take Exit 44 and stay in the left lane until you are on Lougheed Hwy heading East.  You will follow Lougheed Hwy for about 5km and then it turns into Pintree Way.  Follow Pinetree to Guilford Way.  Turn right and take it to Pipeline Rd..  Turn Left.  Follow Pipeline to Gabriola Dr. where you will turn left off of Pipeline into Lot A of Coquitlam Town Centre Park.

the jam is saturday the 19th only as the lot is in use on sunday.

have fun!

i've been out of town for a week.

looks like the indy track's gonna be a bust (they're already digging holes!). travis and jamie are into having it at lot A in coquitlam and that may just happen. although there is still plenty of space at indy it may be filled with those pesky red bull people. either way i'm guessing i won't be going if we do move it. i like riding and all, and it's cool to see everyone, but i don't like riding enough to go a bazillion miles out of my way to do what i can do in my neighborhood. sure that's a shitty thing for an organizer to say about his own event... but it's the truth.

so... ummmm... yeah... i guess there's an event... and since jamie has the barbeque and wants it in coquitlam, the food will be there... but... ummmm... yeah... can you see me shrugging my shoulders?  :|

i'll send out some e-mails and see what the local concensus is about location and hope the nelson shuttle to coquitlam is running that day for all of you interested in travel...
