i want a gear ratio that has good acceleration. i need greater acceleration because i find i can never get my self going fast enough when i'm at a dead stop (when i do stair jumping)

i have a 2005 haro backtrail x1. i was thinking that at some point (but not for a while) i would want to convert my 44 tooth sprocket into a 39 tooth sprocket. i was wondering if this is possible on my bike. if it helps i run a 44-16 sprocket.

also if i did what else, if any, would i need to replace other than the chainwheel itself.
