Re: sunray jam uk posted on 2006-11-12 13:03:07

Not really the best time of year for outdoor jam in the UK, jasons birthday jam was awesome, hopefully more events will happen like that rather than relying on contests to meet up, think thats what the uk scene needs....

Cory is the man, i have no doubt his section will be groundbreaking, that backwards xft steam jump over to backwards halfpacker!!!, and also simon, solo video, and this video part in one year, how nuts is that!!!!! thats pretty good going, and from the trailer its different stuff....

Re: COB 3? posted on 2006-10-29 12:54:11

Whilst on topic, underrated riders that deserve a chance at COB 3, Sebastian Pospiscchil (sorry if spelt his name wrong), that guys awesome, Adam Kun, Keelan Philips, like i said before be a difficult to pick riders out for this without offending heck of a lot of people.

Re: COB 3? posted on 2006-10-29 11:02:13

Thats why i said Sam Foakes Jamin, he's one of the best contest riders, always dialled, and does hard stuff, often gets overlooked cause he doesnt pad his run out with decorative tricks, and he'd thrive on the battle format i'm sure. Taking it another way, if riders never get a chance at the big contests then they will always be unknown to some, although i'm sure almost everyone in the know, knows how good Sam is.
It would be nice to see this COB be a celebration of hard tricks, and not easy looking stuff that looks good.

Re: COB 3? posted on 2006-10-29 09:12:02

Sam Foakes must get an invite this time!!! Difficult to pick like the best 20 guys fairly in my opinion without upsetting the odd rider here and there you know. Ive already offered to judge COB 3.

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-24 11:33:39

mutt u don't have to tell me about judging system :)
and although things have gotten heated in this thread, there are a lot of constructive points to think about that is a good thing, to get people to debate for the better of flatland.

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-24 10:56:22

efram , you are missing the whole dam point man!!!!
@least eninem got a chance to go- THEY ACCUALLY TOOK TURNS
or dont you remeber that part of the movie?
i bet if you where in justins shoes you would feel a bit diffrent about the situation - but i can also see your point of veiw is valid-but only to a point where it would be fair though

tim

Tim i was saying 8 mile just as an example nothing more, flatlanders trying to be all hip hop...., the whole battle format is not organised enough leading to this snaking fest matt wilhelm has mentioned in a message above, what should have have happened really is some clear rules on the amount of attempts at a trick before the next guy goes in, personally i think 2 triess then next guy, my absolute personal opinion are the 3 minute runs are much better in showcasing flatland, im not a big fan of the battle format, and the tiny areas which you have to ride in, that fits to a certain style of riding, and if you don't ride like that you get shut out of it.
The MC should control the area with maybe the addition of a timekeeper, basics really, but seem to have been overlooked at this contest and maybe other contests, but have not come to a head before like this one
plenty of issues to be discussed that haven't really been raised, for example, how was the list of riders decided upon? im curious how sam foakes didnt get an invite, cory fester.....

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-23 01:00:48

Jamin... The whole reason i keep coming back on pedal is for heated debates such as this, what i was saying is that is important to keep it constructive, and wasnt sure if i made this point already but i also think important that thepros who do read this (and they do...) voice their opinions, like you said jamin only way stuff gets aired and possibly used in the future.

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-22 15:45:37

In a lot of ways this thread of getting quite upsetting because a lot is truth:

1) you have matt wilhelm one of the best contest riders in the world questioning why he should compete, that is bad for flatland right there. im bummed on that but i totally agree with him, how many contests have you been to where the format changed 5 mins before contest started, no good right there.

2) Someone quoted " Im disappointed in how such a successful rider can forget the differance between a contest and a show." Its sad to say the contests are a show, thats why i dont think we see the hardest tricks anymore, the format doesnt cater for allowing for progression, i honestly dont think we do, seriously! what i see is a lot of tricks that look good but are not that hard, but what is good that is that people are that passionate about flatand that they come on this forum and voice their opinions, theres to many pros reading this forum scared to voice their opinion and thats what wrong with flatland for me.

Lets get professional about flatland, theres too much room for bitching whereas i believe flatland is more cut and dry, the judging should be factual, end of chat really.

Everyone should love flatland and all who ride flatland.Sorry for the rant but christ its getting a bit heavy.....

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-22 02:55:38

Heres a few thoughts i've had from just watching the battle, firstly i'm sure some of it is lost in the breaking up of battle in two halves.
I think the first rule of battling they should have is a rule about if u miss your first try you get two trys, i was surprised by how many falls there were, i don't know if 'i'm the only one, but i expected more from this battle, kind of a disappoint if im honest.
I do think the battle format favours marttis style much more than justins, you can see marttis getting in the groove, jesse when he rides has the same way of busting a move then going right back and doing another, whereas justins style is morte suited towards any actual run, maybe im wrong thats just my feeling on it.
Like i said, i expected more from that battle, has been hyped up bit 2 much.

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-20 14:41:06

Just a thought guys it would show the real level, i wouldn't like to put a limit to the combos, like for example i know Martti has 25-30 combos already filmed for the new kgb video and Viki has the same also, so id want to see what they got you know. But the basic idea is there, once again surprised no one has done that idea, shame its copying skateboarding tho...Would create big sales im sure for the artists involved....

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-20 12:45:13

Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song I think not, Martti Kuoppa vs Justin Miller, 2 sections, go at it, give them a certain amount of time to film....who would buy that!!!

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-19 10:42:42

jams sound awesome mutt, i'll be over once again for the intrikat jam for sure in december. i think this idea of america vs europe is stupid, chad johnston judged he's from the us, chase is canadian, guessing the other three were european but come on guys thats a lil too much, its flatland, obviously there are differing opinions about this as there are bound to be. I mean at masters i judged pro flat, and come 2 think of it everyone apart from nathan were european and justin won that contest, i remember that mike s and viki put justin first at that contest so, i just think the comment about us vs europe shows peoples ignorance a little.
as mutt said the judging has progressed since afa days, ukbfa days, its crazy really, but no one outside of flatland will look at it seriously without a serious system. go chad!

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-19 10:14:11

good to here mutt, chads def got his shit together, which can only be for the good of flatland, i mean ive competed for 20 years and the judging has never progressed, chads idea will take away the "personal" and base it on what actually happens", like I said major props to Chad for doing something about it.

"Battles are battles, you need to be prepared on all kinds of mind games to brake the nerves of the opponent." Im still awstruck that no ones had the balls to do this before, props to justin for riding that well with 3 hours sleep, that is a machine!

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-19 09:54:31

I'll second that Mutt haha, at least Chads doing something about it. Flatlanders should pay respect to him for that.

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-19 09:44:43

I would have to say read Marttis statement again, all self explantory! he treated it as a battle not a 3 minute run like it or not, up until flatring no one ever had a battle, people have just rode in and out taking turns, i dont see that as a proper battle, theres no personality being shown, this whole scenario reminds of 8 mile although obviously not as drastic (where the last dude had no reply to eninems last freestyle), as Martti said, hes an entertainer, and as much as i hate to say it, contests are a show now! hence tricks styles, gamemanship the whole deal. instead of looking at the negative, look at the positive, the rivalry with martti and justin will be a good thing for flatland.
