Here's a random video of images from tokyo. I don't think that the videographer is a rider, but there's a shot of a couple flatlanders chilling. Pretty random, but cool. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1476784962

The old school style was a simple and easy to read layout. Check out: http://flattica.com/phpbb/ That's my personal favorite layout. It's simple and easy to read.

The video was jerky when I played it too, but I just exported it from quicktime with an mpg-4 compression and it played fine. I didn't have to register to watch it.

I still diagree.
I am sure the whole idea of the company would be to sell it off at a profit.
And the money that was avaialble came from investors hoping to see a good return to their investment.
when youtube was sold it had 1 private shareholding company that had 30%
Exactly, that's what I'm saying. They could have been getting their bills paid for on borrowed (investor) money.
And going into debt more and more.  To simplify for anyone needing further explanation,  it's like making $10/month and spending $12/month. The other $2 is borrowed. The bills get paid, but the person is still in debt by $2 to the lender.

A lot of big companies are operating like this and the lenders or investors continue to give as long as they are convinced that one day, the company will profit after a certain amount of time, (many times it's years!). If they don't see that happening, the investors pull the plug and what looked like a strong business model from the outside was really weak and on life support from investors.

An example of this was BlueTorch TV. That was a huge production facility. They had a huge staff of producers, videographers, editors, everything. The network they set up was a huge operation. They had decent ratings, and sold TV commercials to big brands. It looked strong from the outside. I wanted to work there to get flatland on TV so I started an internship with them and studied their business system. On the financial end of things they weren't making as much as they should have from the commercial deals and they were spending too much to keep the operation going. They could have produced the same content with a much more scaled down operations system, but they dumped so much money into equipment they figured they might as well use it.  Then one day, they announced they were shutting down and the place went nuts. Nobody even suspected, people were getting paid well and fans were into the programming, but the company's cash flow wasn't straight. More was going out than coming in. Eventually the investors pulled the plug and a mega operation fell.

Youtube had to have been making big money for the site to survive as long as it did... so apparently anything on there getting views was drawing in money... you know how much loot it costs to host a few terrabytes of video??? Theres no way they weren't raking in loot off of every video... theres 2 or 3 adds on the page at a time, maybe more... and they get paid by the view... millions of viewers every day = a lot of money...
The equipment costs alone for servers, storage, and bandwith had to have been in the millions of dollars per year... No ones going to chalk that up as a loss and just say fuck it...
They make money off of adds and spyware... that site does in fact install spyware on your computer when you look at it... You can test it yourself if you want.. and sites get big bucks for spyware infection... and even more for sustained infection.
Theres no doubt in my mind they've made a few hundred dollars off of tj's videos... with the adds, spyware, and people coming back to look at more of tjs videos with the spyware still intact... they've made out pretty good...
Look how much that company sold for! If it wasn't worth that, google never would have paid that much...

All speculation.
Amazon sold millions of dollars worth of products, yet has had great problems trying to break even or make a real profit.
Yes the new owner of you tube has cash, but that does not justify throwing money away.

My bet is that youtube wont see any form of profit for quite a few years yet (speculation again - like your claims)

As for spyware, what defines that nowadays?
cookies? please ......
or do you mean advertisers who use spyware code? ... well nick has 3rd party adverts on here.

Who is going to pay for bandwidth if we dont use youtube?
My bet is even if I hosted the bandwidth for your claim of a griphiker, you still wouldnt post it.

I heard that You Tube's pockets weren't so deep as it was a new company. They were having trouble keeping up with it's bills for all the bandwith necessary. The revenue from ads weren't keeping up with the growth of the website. Google saw that they were getting 100million views per day and 65,000 videos uploaded per day and took over You-tube's debts with the buy out. Now that they have all that traffic, google will probably integrate their own advertising systems to capitalize off the traffic.

The You-tube of BMX...Pedal-tube...
I suppose that would really be a re-organization of the pictures/video forum except with the added bandwith necessary and storage space.

Re: How much time do you spend... posted on 2006-11-02 23:08:37

I was primarily speaking of any type of BMX movie. Of course , it depends on how much new material is being published per day.
So I'll ask a similar question about any type of video material.
How much time do you spend each day looking at any video footage BMX or otherwise on your computer?
This also includes repeat views of video material that you've already downloaded.
