Re: ELEVATION5: THE AM JAM posted on 2006-08-17 15:09:30

I was planning on going to this comp but I found out that this was am only in Myrtle Beach. No offense but that is one of the lamest things I have ever heard in Flatland. Not the am only part, that sucks but I could understand that, but to put a higher purse up than any pro contest held in the usa and then disclude the pro riders is pretty fucking lame.
I fail to see the insentive for riders to turn pro. If you are a top am you get hooked up with tons of product at every comp and now better money than the pros and you get to avoid that big $100 entry fee.You also get to avoid the fun of riding after Justin Miller or Terry adams.
I would also love to know the criteria for who is and isn't allowed to enter. I hope the criteria is this : if you have ever entered a pro contest before you cant enter. That seems like the only possible way to be fair. So for example not to pick on anyone but lets say Stephan Hearn. Now he is on the cover of the event flyer but he just entered his first pro comp in Myrtle Beach so that means he cant enter right? Now I'm not picking on anyone because that guy is awesome and he is a pro no question so I'm just wondering if he is disqauilified from riding in expert? Because if thier are certain "exceptions" , than no offense but it seems to me like you just dont want guys like Justin or Terry to win anymore money.
Maybe I just dont get it. I dont know. Turnout in pro in every contest in North America has been relativly low this year ( maybe excluding voodoo) and instead of providing insentive for more pros to get to comps, we now create a contest that leaves out the best riders in the country and says basiclly this: " its better to be a highlevel am than a lowlevel pro".
I almost never find a reason worth posting on this forum but I am so tired of reading everyone talking about why flatland is so small and and unpopular in the U.S. Stuff like this is the reason. It makes someone like myself spend my money to go to a comp in Europe rather than the USA. The less Pros that come to a comp the harder it is to get a big purse which makes it harder to get pros to come. Its a vicious cycle.
This is not a personal attack on the organiser of this comp either. I am sure you are a great guy and your intentions are good. I just have a fundemental problem with the message this sends to the flatland community. Why spend hours upon hours to place 5th in pro and get $100. I should have slept in everyday and stayed am. I could have won $1000!!!!  I love the logic behind that.

I'm coming in on Friday night. Not sure exactly where I'm staying yet though. I would be a little more excited though if my bike and clothes werent somewhere in the USA right now. So fucking lame. I fly to the myrtle beach comp and my bike and clothes are lost and almost 2 days late. Now I get home and they lost it again. How fucked up is that. Hopefully it will be here before Friday.

Re: What the fuck peopl posted on 2006-08-09 13:09:08

No offense but I think comparing downloading mp3s vs simons dvd is not quite the same thing. The difference is that a music artist's income is a lot different. Not really because they make more (which of course they do) but more so that they dont have to rely on thier cd sales for thier sole income. They have concert sales/ promotional money ect which makes up a larger percentage of that. So in a way they may sell less cds but because more people were easily exposed to their music (via downloading) they probably get more people coming out to their concerts/ ect. In music the biggest losers of downloading are not the artists themselves but the record labels and artists who were going to sell millions of cds anyway.
Unfortunatly downloading Simons dvd is money right out of Simons pocket. He doesn't get people paying to see him perform live every other night. Money gained from this project would make a difference for Simon.
Look. I'm not going to say I never steal music but I have a rule. If I download a cd and I like it I make sure I go out and buy it. On the same hand if some radio over produced band wants to put out a new cd every 8 months and have 1 catchy song worth listening to then in my opinion you get what you deserve.
For all you people who downloaded Simons vid. Unless you thought it was the same old shit you see on every other video or thought he did a horrible job (which I cant possibly see because this video is unreal) then show Simon your support and buy the dvd. It took simon 3 years to make this. Think about that.

Hey guys this is really important for everyone coming to the jam on Friday. It seems there may be something gonig on there this weekend however I'm not completely sure. i wont know till first thing tommorow. Anyway if things go bad we will meet up at an alternate spot and go from there.

Alternate spot:  The hockey rink behind The Sherwood Park Alliance Church

Directions. - The alliance church is located on the corner of wye road and Cloverbar road so the directions that I posted earlier will get you onto cloverbar road. If you are coming off wye road you will see the curch as you turn onto cloverbar road. If you are coming from the highway just go further south along cloverbar road until it interscts with wye road. The church will be on your right hand side.

Sorry about all the confusion and bullshit guys. This is the first weekend they have ever done something in this spot. Kinda figures though  Anyway call me (780-417-3419) if there are any problems. Jed you can stay at my place as well.

Man I have been waiting to hear about this date. I really wanted an excuse to come to Vancouver. The date is perfect too, I get back from MyrtleBeach on the 14th and I have tickets to see TOOL the 25th so this is just perfect! One big riding vacation 8-)

Looks like I'll be seeing some of you guys out here for street justice this week too!

Sorry this has taken me so long guys, just been getting really caught up with filming these last few weeks. Anyway the jam is going to be on the Friday at the Strathcona Athletic Park. It will be held inside the outdoor hockey rink adjacent to the lot the jam was held in last year. You can park in the same spot as last year. I still have a few details to finalize as far as water and stuff goes. As far as the spot itself for those of you who rode with me at the GARK last year it is nothing like that! It is almost perfectly flat and the size of a large rink.

For those of you coming out of town that were not there last year here are a couple directions...

1) If you are coming into sherwood park from edmonton take the sherwood park freeway all the way into town. The road itself will turn into wye road. Follow this road until you hit Cloverbar Road. Turn left. Follow. You will pass Granada blvd and see a bunch of soccer feilds, ect. There will be a parking lot on your left hand side called the strathcona athletic park. turn left into the lot and the rink is at the far end of the lot.

2) If you are coming in via highway 16 (coming east or west) take the cloverbar road turnoff into sherwood park going south. follow this road for awhile. You will pass baseline road. Then you will pass Colwill blvd. The parking lot entrance is just past Colwill blvd on your right hand side.

It would also be helpful to get an idea of who all is confirmed they are coming. I havent heard from a few people yet. Team Winnepeg? Team Saskatoon? Vancouver? If you need a place to stay let me know or anything else for that matter. I will be at the jam spot by noon for sure so hopefully I'll see all you guys there.
If you guys have any questions/needs call me  780-417-3419. call me at 1am if you have to just make sure you get ahold of me.

Re: Street Justice 2006! (July 8th 2006) posted on 2006-06-08 20:34:24

Ok so the contest date has been announced!! The contest will be on saterday July 8th at 1664 (9384-26ave). Registration starts around 8 am but thats not likely going to happen for a bunch of hung over flatlanders so as long as you show up before 11 you should be ok. As far as the spot goes, yes it is the same place as last year and yes its not great to say the least but I garuntee you will have a great weekend.

We are also going to have a flatland jam the day before the same as last year. It will be at the same location as last year however it will be in the hockey rink adjacent to the lot. This is my home spot and is the best place I have ever ridden. I have to get in touch with sean to work out the details as far as food and possibly some prizes but I will keep you posted.

And last but not least those of you who need a place to stay, we got you covered. Troy has a new place downtown and has offered to put up people, I will put up people and I know sean will be booked up if he is back from europe in time.Just pm me.

I would like to see some guys make the trek from out east this year. Like I said if you only want to come to ride for 3 min at a contest and win something this might not be the contest for you, but if your down for some great riding, good friends and crazzzzzy afterpartys then come to edmonton. It will be worth your time I promise.

I haven't met or seen Hiro ride in person so I I cant comment as to his contest type riding but I did get to see his section in the cream dvd. That guy is a bad ass rider and his section was unbelievable. That mccircle bunnyhop tailwhip to mccircle is insane.

Wow that last statement was the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Your right though. I watch guys like simon obrien and dan rigby and all I think about is how much time they wasted on those crazy smooth links. Your right I have so much more respect for someone who makes a brakeless mccircle look sketchy. After all why should I respect someone who has put in a countless amount of time to get to that high level of bike control when I could respect someone who puts in just enough on tricks to be able to sketch it out. Its not like having more bike control will actually help you learn harder tricks. But who needs hard tricks when we can learn brakeless turbine steamrollers and hang5 squeaks.

By the way just so you know ,I'm not picking on brakeless riding at all. Just a stupid comment.

something to say thank you posted on 2005-12-27 11:33:55

I just wanted to say thank you to all of the people who have made the last year of my life so incredible. Since recently returning from my last trip I have finally had time to take in all that has transpired for me in the last year or so.It has always been a dream of mine since I started riding 9 years ago that I woulg get to travel to events and meet amazing people and riders. This last year has been a dream come true for me. From travelling around hanging out, getting to rie with people I looked up to, meeting so many new freinds and getting the privlidge to be a part of such a great line of riders in the intrikat videos, this year has been the highlight of my life. It would never have been possible however without so many people helping me out. From places to stay and people just making me have fun and feel comfortable wherever I was.
Since there are just too many people to thank individually I decided to put up a video I made before I left for California. This isn't a video part or anything and was never intended for people to see.Just me bringing a camera with me for a week so I could see some stuff for myself.Anyway i hope you enjoy it and thank you for making this last year so incredible for me. Hope to see you all soon. Happy Holidays.

cory.

I hope this works because I am unfortunantly computer illiterate. If not the video is on the eenogoedidee site under the name coryfesterfall2005

Mad props to the Dallas/ Ft. Worth Crew posted on 2005-12-26 15:16:45

Well this is actually the 3rd time I wrecked my knee. The first time was about 4 years ago. I had my acl,mcl replaced and my cartilage done as well. Then the next year I had my cartilage done again as well as my acl tightened. So I had to take off 8 and 6 months respectivly and I wore a cti brace for the last 3 years up until this summer. Looks like this is going to be the cartilage again so hopefully I can just work through it without surgery but if not it should only be a couple months off anyway. I can still pedal around right now just cant really bend too much. Looks like I'm going into whiplash and opposite training for a little while.

What does it mean. posted on 2005-12-25 21:13:29

I dont know why but I always looked at the whole issue of trendiness/originality like this: Everyone likes different things and rides for different reasons motivation wise. Because of this everyone has a different opinion about what is stylish or hard. To me being original is is about doing the tricks you like for the reasons that seem best to you. Everyone enjoys different things so as long as your doing what makes you happy you are being original. Originality is more than just tricks, its about having the courage to be yourself.

To be honest the more I travel and go to events and stuff the more I see bmx itself as more of an image than anything else. I think thats what seperates a lot or really great "underground" riders from a lot of riders who are less talented per say but are in all the magazines and doing well at all the contests. Those riders just play the "bmx" game better. The way I see it "bmx" has nothing to do with riding your bike. Being clothing fashionable and selling yourself doesn't make you a more talented bike rider. I think some of people want to be amazing bike riders and some want to be rockstars. To each thier own. For me I could care less.I Love riding my bike to much to concern myself with "bmx".

Mad props to the Dallas/ Ft. Worth Crew posted on 2005-12-25 10:20:00

Hey Carry. Thanks a lot for the props. Man too bad my stay in Texas was so short lived. I was really looking forward to going to the athens jam and the afterparty. But I'm back home now starting rehab on my knee so hopefully I will be able to make it to some of the upcoming contests this spring That kinda depends on weather or not I can avoid surgery for a little while but well see. Man I was so bummed out when my knee went again but on the plane ride home I just thought about what you and eugene had to go through and how positive you are about everything. Made me really put things in perspective so thanks for that. I also want to thank all the people that made my trip possible and amazing both in Texas and california. There are so many people that its hard to thank everyone on a personal level but I'm going to see if I can post a video I made recently. My way of saying thank you to everyone that made this last year so amazing for me.Happy Holidays and Thank You.
