step one: stop thinking about it
i kind of realized recently that the best way to go about it is to not tyhink in terms of verse/chorus/interlude/etc. just play and things will come to you and if you play with things enough other parts naturally come off them. And there's no shame in having one part songs or short songs or whatever. that's another thing that helps. don't make yourself think you need all these parts. sometimes a simple song with well written/delivered lyrics is best. I have a lot of songs that are basically one part and only a couple of minutes long. but those are some of the songs i like the best.

i don't know. it works well for the kind of music that i've been writing. if you hate this kind of stuff it might not be your method

Actually, I remember reading in this bible that had some footnotes and random facts that long ago Jews didn't believe in an afterlife. But, I also think they were motivated in a "let's not have God unleash His wrath on us" kind of way. not sure if that really was true.

I don't know. A lot of the stuff I've been hearing/seeing about the hurricane's devastation really upsets me, and this is another one that was very provoking to me.
Lecture me on skateboards posted on 2005-08-24 21:45:25
well it depends on what kind of skateboarding you want to be doing. if it's just street in your driveway or whatever then I would get some 7.5-7.75" wide deck (brand doesn't make much difference really, although i've always felt like world industries and blind were a bit heavier. the last board i bought was chocolate i think.). I don't know how much you're looking to spend but I personally would reccomend tensor trucks, either low or mids (mids are better if you plan to try vert but it can be done with either), or possibly some grind kings. I've only ever used tensor so i wouldn't be able to help your much there.
bearings should definitely be abec 5 or 7. I don't know exactly how they measure it but for whatever reason it is, abec 3's loose their momentum faster than 5 or 7's. I think i've always used 5's and never really had a problem.
for wheels i've been using some 53mm Seven's which are probably 50mm or less by now. smaller wheels are supposed to be better for street (i think you get more "pop" with smaller wheels, so therefore a better ollie). I would say 54 or 56 if you're just trying it out, since those are good all around wheels and can get over gravel and whatnot better. 58-60 is more for vert oriented skating. if you get 56mm wheels i would say get risers too (especially if you buy lower trucks), but if you keep your trucks fairly tight then you don't need them.
that wasn't the most organized thing and i haven't actually skated in the longest time, but if you have any other questions i'll try and help you out
Anyone see 20/20? It was about abstract "art" posted on 2005-08-06 20:10:40
alright well i only started painting a month or so ago maybe, but here's kind of how i feel about it. like they say in the article there's a difference between a painting and a pice of art, and the difference being that art has a message or meaning behind it and a painting just looks nice (or maybe not).
I also feel that when you're dealing with anything in the art/music/writing realm, creativity is much more important than skill (maybe not so much for writing but definitely music and art. EX metal guitarists that are basically masters of their instrument but can't really write decent songs that can be appreciated by non-musicians and are more or less writing songs so they can go "look how fast i can play. you might not be able to pick out any notes but look how fast i go")
so with art, I feel that abstract/modern art (the kind with the blobs and all that shit) can and does have messages to convey that are just as meaningful as realistic art (or whatever you would call it). I'm sure that just as much of it doesn't, which is where articles like this come from, which is why i think that artists should be making art like this solely convey a message and be able to explain it in a way that makes sense to the average person, because not explaining it leaves it open to be discredited (much like it is being in that article).
For example, i recently painted what you would consider a modern/abstract piece (the only one i have so far), on a piece of clear plexiglass. I don't have a camera to take a picture and put it up here, but what it is is basically a bunch of different colored triangles all over it, except one is painted on the opposite side of the plexiglass and can be seen from the otherside since the other side is unpainted at that area. I titled it "Surrounded (But Still Alone)", and the idea behind it is the feeling you (or maybe just i) get when you're/i'm hanging out with a group of people and don't feel like you/i really belong in that group. The idea of self isolation even when you're with people.
Now, after reading that article, I did think to myself that i could have painted people themselves and done that sime thing with the plexiglass and cnveyed the message perhaps a little more tangibly. But, like i said before i've only been painting for a month or so and the last art class i took was 3 or 4 years ago, so i really can't paint people very well or realistically. But does that mean i should just not portray the emotion/idea because i can't draw people? i don't think so. I just found a substitute for it. Maybe someday when I get better at painting i'll come back to that idea and do it with people instead, but until then i'm content with what i have done.
but againif i didn't have a real meaning behind that and couldn't explain it i might as well quit cause it's pretty obvious a 4 year old could paint a piece of plexiglass with a shitload of triangles with little effort.

Eddie Condon possibly. He was my great uncle or something like that and I guess back in the 20's he put together a lot of jazz acts. I read his autobiography ("We Called it Music"), and it had some wild stuff in it. I think it would be an interesting life to lead
Dr. Seuss invented the word crunk posted on 2005-07-27 20:15:28
"Crunk" is a german word that means sick or ill, although i think it's spelled Krunk or Krank in german so it might be something different, but it would still hold right. Crunk-car = Ambulence (Krankenwagen is the german word i beleibe)
but i could always be wrong since I didn't really do so hot in german
lock your bikes posted on 2005-07-27 20:10:36
it depends on what kind of bike theif it is. A lock will help if it's just some random kid, but "professional" bike theives can get through anything. I read an article in one of my dad's cycling magazines that interviewed a bike theif, and s/he said something like "yoiu think your bike is safe? it is mine. it is mine, my friend. if i see your bike and i want it, i take it" and went on to say that the longest it ever took him to get through a lock was 30 seconds. it was an interesting read. i wish i still had the article

if he goes around the world and returns to the same place he started at. then we will have gone uphil just as much as he's gone downhill.

alright, so if the lack of gold to back up the dollar is the problem, how can it be solved at this point? that's a lot of supposed money that has to be accounted for in gold, and i would think that going back to gold would have a disatrous immediate effect on the economy due to the large amount of money we wouldn't have backed up in gold.
The Federal Reserve - the facts posted on 2005-07-06 11:46:23
alright, as forewarning I haven't read any of those books/links, gotten any degrees, or even so much as thought of the subject outside of looking at my paycheck everything week and thinking "damn uncle sam taking my money" (it's not a third by the way, as you mentioned. it's like 17% or something for me)
anyways, here's a question that maybe you can help me out with: what difference would it make if it were backed by gold? the value of gold is based on a number somebody places on it. if it were backed by gold could they not theoretically increase the value of gold when they wanted to create more money? (assuming they're pulling money out of their ass in the first place)
if you think about it money is a ridiculous concept in the first place, but to me gold is just heavier money, and therefore ridiculous as well.
interesting read

don't know any sites, but my friend is into all of that shit and he got a huge Poison backpatch that looks pretty kickass except for the fact that i don't like the band or pretty much any of those bands. anyway he picked his up at like a music expo in Philly. it's probably from back in the day. that might be what you'll have to do
