firstoff, if the bike that u have currently IS a mountain bike, do anything but bring it to the park, it makes you look like one of those idiots in Florida that have the sandals and high socks(A.K.A. you look stupid). Two great bike brands are Eastern and Hoffman. And i'm also relatively new to biking and one thing i learned: whatever you do, DON'T GET IN THE WAY OF THE REALLY GOOD GUYS, i mean like the guys who are doing 360's and tailwhips.
