Thanks everyone who actually gave useful feedback.

cozmo: The color changer is the same code from the old site, and should set a cookie on your machine. It should carry it from page to page, but it may not take effect until the entire page has loaded, because of the javascript it uses. You should be able to just type a message into the shoutbox and hit submit. Does that not work?

myke: Gee, thanks for that insight.

Hi nick,
It seems like you're hard at work to make this a better site.
I just have a few comment on the new layout.

What I like:
-I like what your doing on the side, with the Shoutbox and User Control
-The color scheme on the Shoutbox is nice too

Changes:
These are in my opinion changes I'd like to see.

- I think you should get rid of the pic in the background it is kinda distracting for the eye. (Very annoying actually)
- You should change the background color. Looking at this board is like looking at a newspaper from far away, just looks like a bunch of words and letter bunched together. Nothing sticks out.
- Not enough color. But I like what you are doing on the side of the board>>>
I think you should model or work off that type of layout.
- Make the links at the top bigger, they are way too small or indistinguishable.
- Bring back the Preview button.

hey nick,

since i love pedal and i'm into webmastering and developing myself, i was wondering why you are building it by yourself. You said you wanted extra features that arent supported by out of the box solutions? in that case i am really wondering what those are!

from my quess you want pedal to become more of a community then just a forum. From my point of view and knowlegde of things (especially open source) most of these things are possible with complete packages (phpnuke witch u used before has great new features in the newer versions) Why arent you taking such a package as a base and continue from there? just my 2 cents...

all i hope is that pedal will regain the "glory" it had before, but guessing of the members that come here normally i dont think that will be a problem, just wait and see, pedal will shine again!

anyway nick i really appriciate what your doing and respect for the time you can find for it (cause i cant :P) you know you will allways be remembered as one of the pioneers that brought bmx-riders together! just....continue doing what ur doin! hehe

BUMP!

This Forum is not working. Scrap it and put a decent forum script like phpbb with a simple theme and people
will come back, if you want content management use phpnuke it comes with phpbb as well.

http://www.phpbb.com/
http://phpnuke.org/

Im sorry but i used to enjoy using the forums here but now its just one big mess.

i'm still here, but every time this site loads i pray it's the old site, but all i get is a bunch of things crammed together...

please just get rid of this and go back to the old one.

and i can't say what every little detail that i liked about the it, but i can say this... only thing i didn't like was the ad post in the topics. other than that it was perfect.

also if anything you could just add an option to let us use the old layout instead. kinda like how the color works, but in a layout form.

A few notes...

-put a Reply button at the top of the post, in addition to the one at the bottom.
-if a user is not logged in, onClick of the reply button, redirect them to a login page, rather than just ignoring the request
-where is the quote button?
-why doesn't ctrl+v work in this textbox?
-"New server will be up tomorrow according to my host, and that should take care of the entire speed issue." I think you should look into optimizing your SQL, at one point in time you had a print out on the bottom of the page that displayed the number of queries it took to generate the page, and quite frankly, it was retardedly high. everything on post should be able to be done with one line of sql, and simply looping through the result set. if you had to execute 10+ queries, either your normalization isn't right, your sql isn't right, or you need to rescope some of your variables (and this REALLY shouldn't be a concern, based on how simply it is to display the resultset).
-scrap the "Logged in" page after logging in, either redirect to where the user came from (specific post), or to the forum index, but don't put an intermediary page in there.

Hopfully that helps you out.

Love,
Cory
