stange days album>light my fire
light my fire is an accidental big hit because of publicity stunt against a little tv network called ABC. when he screamed "higher" instead of a censored alternative "happier" on live tv. if he hadn't of done that light my fire would've been passed off as another extremely long song they wrote like "this is the end". that most fans think is okay.
it is kind of ironic how he was against censorship but a 3:20 minute radio version of the song was mixed and made to please the radio audience, when the album version is a 6:50 minute song.

Oh man,Morisson was untouchable back in the day.
He was mentally messed up but he managed to write so poetic and deep lyrics.
The whole band would play so smooth almost magicaly that if you paid much attention to songs like ~the end~,you would feel somehow lost, kinda stoned by the music.
Excellent :-)

you cant generalize like that. theres an awful lot of very musicly inclined punk musicians. punk is about the message, not the sound. thats what sub-catagories of punk are for. list some examples of the "punk" you dont like. i bet i could find plenty that you would like

What message does modern punk have that hasn't already been described more eloquently in past generations of punk rock?

Bad Religion is one of my favorite bands... but.. other than that and maybe the misfits... (and that's not really like.. punk...) I just think it's a trend.

the day i listen to anything that could be considered even remotely punk (without being ska/reggae styled) that is from the past 10 years is the day I die.

for the most part their not really ska related. its rare to get a really ska sounding track outta l.o.c. or choking victim.
