I can see both arguments for wanting it to stay underground and for wanting it to be noticed. i also sometimes listen, when new people are around, for that "woah look what hes doing!" stuff. and not that im an attention whore or self centered or anything, but sometimes i wonder how adults can walk by and NOT have a double take or even glance in my direction. i mean come on, look what we're doing! im spinning on one wheel on a bicycle! i would stop and watch me  :-D

little kids are so much aware of their surroundings,
it has something to do with how adults are so programmed, and monotonous, while kids are so creative, imaginitive, undeveloped, theirfore everything is new and exciting, and when something is new it puts a whole nother perspective on it, when an adult sees something new, they just don't care, becaus they have no more care, to be different, or even to be interested in something different.
and in a way its kinda sad.

edit: i just read the tony hawk thing, one time when i was skateboarding,(before i rode bmx) some white trash hick, and his 10 yr old (probly)abused son walk by and are like "Hey you're doin those moves like that Toby guy, Toby Hawk right?"
i was just like uhhh yea suuurree

that way, when i ride, i can continue to blow peoples minds.......

If you wanted to blow peoples minds, you'd want flatland to be mainstream. Doing a kickflip will blow more peoples mind than a hitch hiker.

Me too. I love doing simple tricks and having to educate people on my lifeblood EVERY TIME someone comes wandering into my parking lot.

Screw that. I'd rather have it appreciated for what it is rather than some token obscure extreme sport. I'm sick of being dismissed because I don't ride ramps and do backflips.

Flatland in the mainstream in 2006.  8-)

I wish we all had crews and would randomly show up at places and battle eachother to sick BEATZ! hahahaha that would be so awesome

yeah people always talk to me about tony hawk. i just keep my mouth shut though. another thing i was thinking about is if not that many people ride flat than how many flat products are people producing? anyways flat will never be mainstream because it takes true effort, and its not something you can just pick up and be sick at it, so people tend to rear off. plus posers increase the industry times like three and its impossible to be a flat poser i think, so it wont be mainstream ever. but at the moment it is pretty big i guess.

P.S. why does braun sponsor so many events? their products are like coffee machines and razors!! does the owner of braun ride flat?

i would say does it really matter? mainstream or not, it's always you and your bike, why give a shit about what people think...Blowing people's mind sounds like vanity to me, i'm not riding to blow people's mind, i'm riding to blow my own mind !...Most people don't understand why we're doing what we are doing on our little bikes, and not interested about it in any way if you ask them, but that is fine, people are not all alike and i highly respect that.

i personnaly do not appreciate when people whatch what i'm doing, or come and ask me questions about it...if they do i answer kindly and always with a smile, but i prefer them not to notice me at all, all they do is take my time from riding..i know it may sound rude, but that is what happens...

so flatland may stay obscure, or become mainstream, i'd be the same flatlander probably...i am sure this concern is not what drove any flatlander to ride flatland in the first place. a true flatlander will always love and ride flatland, mainstream or not.

I was going to say something like this, but I figured I would get flamed (as usual) becuase I made a slight attack on the OP.

HAHA!! That's just it! Because I CAN'T do a kickflip, but i CAN do a hitchhiker... That was my whole point in this... If flat was mainstream and any joe schmo walking the street knew what Martti Kouppa could do, they might look at me riding and think hmmm that's not that big of a deal, but since they have never been exposed to that level of riding they look at me doing hitchhikers, pinky squeeks, steamrollers, karls, halfpackers etc. etc., and they are like DUDE THAT IS SOME SICK SHIT!!!!!  :-D :-D

The problem is however, that if you got a trick dialed, it looks so smooth sometimes it might look easy to some people; lots of people I know usually say when they see me riding: "That can't be that hard, lemme try!" and when they do they fail miserably of course and say: "Wow, impressive man!". The people that really respect flatland are the ones that rode a BMX more than twice. :)

Sometimes tricks look so complicated and hard that people's minds will be confused and think: "That can't be that hard! :?".
