what i am annoyed about is how all the 'good' riders are pricks. i would much rather ride with guys that are average and still wanting to learn and have fun, then riding with you stuck-up tards. im in no way saying everyone in this thread is stuck-up, but theres a few poeple who i knew when i started flatland and they've changed in a BAD way.

That's weird, all the pros I've met were pretty cool and down to earth. I always liked riding Chenga more than usual when some pros (or anyone from somewhere else) came to ride.

well yeah definitly theres still some nice guys, but theres a large amount now of 'good' (not nessicarily pro) riders that are big dickwads. and if i mention them on here, ill just create more of an argument.

I haven't met a "good" rider that was a dick yet.  But bring on the arguing. This wouldn't be pedal without a lot of arguing and drama.

Yeah, the hitch hiker was another trick that just made me sick, but it was so much fun that I HAD to learn it.  When I did, I did them in my run as far as I could just to make it obvious that I HAD the trick better than most of the other guys.  So maybe the compitition to spin faster is that same thing.
I think TJ nailed this one.  They are fun and you have to do them.  It's the all-purpose position, the modern swivel.  Does anyone remember that there was a trick back in the day that was actually called the "tricksaver?"

wasn't the trick saver also known as the woody whip as well?  as for the steamroller being the all purpose position, i totally agree. didn't someone say that it replaced the pinky squeak as link-filler?  i hate turbined steamrollers myself, and i try to steer clear of it, (probably because i suck at it and its not really fun to do in my opinion) but sometimes its hard to resist and its a very useful tool for buying time while you think of the next trick to do.  when will pinky squeaks and locomotives be cool again?  i miss those days.

What's a locomotive?

I think it's interesting that you pointed out that it's sort of a safe trick to work with while in the middle of your link.

I've based a lot of my links on the front wheel around that cliche switch handed steamroller style, because it's a trick you can do pretty much anything on the front wheel into and out of.

Just a thought as to why it's so popular.
