Go to any developed English speaking country, or an other language, and they laugh at America.

I'm sure the world would be better off if the Axis powers had conquered the world in World War II.  Or if the Soviet Union became the only superpower in the 80s.  Or if we just let Israel get wiped off the map.  Or if we stopped sending BILLIONS of dollars in aid worldwide, even to countries who are by no means our allies.  There are most definitely big problems with current American policy, but you might want to give the United States a bit of credit.  And we think you talk funny, too.

So this thread turns into... America's the best.... how predictable.... :-P

How about the annual budget the U.S.A. has for war? (in the billions!)
It is just fuckin ridiculous. How about the huge rates of underprivledged and homeless people this has caused?
Either by using them or continually spending this bullshit amount of the country's money on weapons.. designed and used, to kill.

But hey... If you want to make a 'world super power' omlette, you have to break a few million eggs..

And Stereolab, we think you talk funny, too.

Excuse me? Responsibility?

Sorry, i think you are being blinded by the big brother/police force of the world idea. America has no reponisibility to do these things, they do it for political reasons, like gaining of land/military deals/hope for social acceptance/money and rarely, common sence ideals.

Australia does things too. Consider the East Timor crisis back in 2000 and now again. The tsunami/earthquake crisis. We have also committed troops to Iraq too. But before you spit out that the US has committed X number of troops and Australia has ony committed Y number of troops so we arent doing anything, fist think that we only have a population of 20 million or so and the US far surpasses that.

On the remote part of the world bit. I think that you will find we are no more remote than you. What have you got? Mexico on one side and Canada on the other? WOW!!! your really in the middle of some real amazing stuff there.

Dont get me wrong, America is far from shit. It is much much better than a lot of countries out there. Its just not the centre of the universe as some may believe.

ps. nice work on the Abu Gharib prison thing and the latest murders of 24 innocent civilians.

I completely agree with the above statement.  So who are you arguing with?  The United States is certainly not the center of the universe; however everyone should appreciate what we HAVE done in the best interests of the world.  Yes everything is political, and yes some mistakes have been made, but overall the world is a better place for our being here.  I absolutely believe we have responsibility to assist others, given our wealth and military power.  Certainly we could do a better job of that.

Also please understand that you are on an American-based message board, with a majority of American users.  The United States is the center of
 - my
 - universe, because I live here.  I would love to visit Australia, but don't know if I'll ever be able to.  I am on a few other boards on which almost everyone is within the EU, and they almost never talk about America.  I have no problem with that.

I'll sidetrack this one more time. Its really hard to debate this debacle without knowing for sure why we are in Iraq in the first place. The reason I get upset about any of this is because of what I think is ignorance in behalf of those that think we are there for political reasons. If I'm wrong so be it. With the current oil crisis, yes there is a crisis, it would only make sense to go invade a nation with 30% of the Middle East's crude oil reserve. Iraq was an easy target with Saddam being who he is. So why not just make a deal with him for that oil? What if Saddam didn't like the US and wanted to sell his oil to say...Russia, Germany and France? But you(we) need that oil. Is Bush and his crooney's involved in oil and its trading? Since the day they were born. Oil makes the world go round and round. If people do not understand this crisis it will make it much easier for Governments and there associates to mislead you. Oil consumption is very important. The less we use, the less the need to go get it becomes. I hope this is starting to make sense, but more importantly, I hope I'm wrong. So please tell me you have faith in your government and that they are ready to prepare us to consume less oil and(or) shed immediate light onto some other super fuel that will be available to everyone, not just the ones who will be able to afford it. Things are only going to get worse before they get any better. Big Oil has the reigns and if you don't like it, start doing something about it. You can believe me or think I'm a fruit. Either way, things we might consider negative, are happening and are going to continue happening, that we all have to deal with. So anyways, these are my ideas and maybe you have some of your own. Lets here them.

america = dead.....
what we have now is the united states of george bush.... an evil dictatorship that the un needs to free us all from.
What ever cause bush is trying to push for is not worth the consiquences.... He flushed america down the toilet and gave our rights to foreigners. Oil or no Oil... I would wrather go back to living like the amish than not have my constitutional rights! I have strong heritage in the foundation of this country and it hurts me and my family to see what bush has done to it. And the fact that people just stand by and let the people in power just shit on all the stuff those troops in the past fought for, is just heart breaking to me... People need to realize that soooo many people died to protect what bush flushed down the toilet for us. How many people died to protect those freedoms just so george bush can wipe his ass with it and take it all away from us... adding insult to injury by making a profit off the ordeal... By not standing up and letting bush do this, you are shitting on the soldiers graves that died to defend our freedoms, and made our country a great place to be. To me the biggest disrepect for memorial day, is to defend the actions of those who ruined our country... Oil is not worth taking our freedoms away. Nothing is. Those people we are supposedly freeing, don't really seem to take too kindly to us, so I don't think they are gonna give us a deal on any oil anyway... so again its all for nothing...
Everyone that signed the patriot act needs to be put in prison for treason against the constitution! The president needs to be taken to a world court and tried for war crimes. Our military needs to be brought home. And we need to completly Re-staff our government with non-corrupted officials. Our elections need to be overseen by another 3rd party to make sure there is no voter fraud takes place.... being from ohio I can tell you from the amount of bush signs I saw on lawns that bush did not win ohio ligitimatly... My mother worked the polls in our county and only gave out a hand full of republican ballets, yet some how bush won our district?
People need to wake the fuck up!
