normally bike shops recommend getting a lock about 1/10th the price of your bike

Don't put your bike in a situation in which it could be stolen and it wont be stolen. Don't ride in shitty areas.. Don't leave your bike out of your site or walk away from it within easy running range.... If you must leave it out of your site, have some one watch it while your gone. Don't leave it in your car unattended, take it home when your done riding. Keep it in your house in a very hard to remove/pain in the ass to get to place(like in a basement or up a flight of stairs). Find a good place on the bike to hide a piece of paper with your name on it, that way you can prove its yours if you need to(like in the seat post or the handle bar). I'll support dans comp till bmx companies start selling direct to their customers... | |

Alright, I live in NYC and my bike shop deals with people who get bikes stolen everyday because their idiots who think they can use a cable to lock up their bike and leave it overnight.
