Right, because Dave Mirra has no street skills....
*cough* Road Fools 9 what?
>_>
Anyone that doesn't respect Mirra has never seen him ride.
The bomb drop is just insanity. He can pretty much do it all, and is arguably the greatest all around rider of all time. The only other guy that even comes to mind in this respect is DMC.
By bomb drop, do you mean his backflip drop in? I've seen footage of it, it's just stupid....
But DMC FTW !!
Old School indeed.
I'd also have to add Mat Hoffman to the list of Gods.
You only hear about his exploits 10 feet above coping, but he used to ride rails the hard way, straight on hop and clear the beginning of the rail, not gap out. You never see anyone hit a rail like that.

Depends on how far over you're gapping.
If it's a far gap and you know you're going to slide off, then be real slick and undershoot the gap, and as you land push your back wheel out to make the gap, then let your momentum carry you out and off the ledge, and 180 out like a pro.
I guess it'a hard to explain....if only we could vulcan mind meld, i could show you....

My thoughts to your thoughts....my mind, to your mind

LMFAO
Do you have any clue who Dave Mirra is.....
Try Props, issue, what was it, 17 or so ? from 1996.
You're one of those fools who wonders how he got the nickname " the Miracle Boy " i bet.

Argh, i've had this happen when trying xup airs....quite annoying, because i do barspins and it won't happen, then i'll try an xup and i'll smack my toe >_<
But when i get my new frame, i'm going from from 20.5" to 21.25" ( S&M Black Bike FTW )

For your first bike, Eastern, dk, hell even a Volume (i don't ride them but they're not bad)
They all have decent starter setups for under 4 hunnid
:P
New to bmx posted on 2006-03-31 23:51:54
Ah, there isn't much in this life more satisfying that watching a new rider progress, learn, and enjoy the ways of BMX.
Basically, just get on your bike, and ride.
Try hopping up a curb, or just riding off the curb, until you're comfortable with that, then move on and try somehting new. Don't ever let anyone look down on you just because you're new at it. You ride for yourself, and have fun, that's all there is to it.
pop a wheelie, take a foot off a pedal, just mess around and have fun.
Oh but you will fall, be sure of that. Falling is how you measure your progress. If you never fall, then you've stopped getting better, don't forget that.
Tricks you learned in the past month? posted on 2006-03-31 23:47:38
Past few months i've progressed quite a bit, which does make me tight in the pants.
I've started linking tricks more an more.
Manual to feeble to manual...hop up manual to hop nosemanual over...my nosemanuals aren't really good yet, but i can nosemanual across a 8 foot sidewalk or so, and this is all brakeless mind you :P
rear wheel balance is getting better, got a couple 360 tire taps i'm happy with, and some weird one where i ride parallel to the curb, 270 onto my back tire and hop off, so that counts as a off camber 360 tail tap?
I'm toothpick chinking everything i see....out of manual even....dunno where i'll go with that yet.
Peg mnausl are finally dialed, i can go for almost half a mile if i catch a hill ( i used to practice them down the middle of Hillsborough St. in Raleigh XD )
On a dirt bank to sub bench, i got xup feeble stall, feeble to fakie, icepick to fakie, opp feeble to fakie
and those pesky fakie 360's are haunting me again....i landed a few a year ago, but alas it's left me T__T
Icepick grinds on coping and fast ledges coming together....
I can barspin in my manuals or in my pegmanuals and not always eat shit now :D
trying to learn rollback to hop-anything stall...in the brickyard at NC State, i fakied the entire brickyard and got so SO close to fakie hop peg stall on the brick ledge across from the library....it's a good 260 feet across that courtyard, so after a few tries, meh.
and i suppose this post has gone on way to long
Sorry, guess i'm bored = long winded......
Baaaarrrssss meh and the ones you drink at too :D posted on 2006-03-31 23:28:03
Wy not just get used to a slightly higher rise ?
Odyssey makes ecxellent bars, as does F-it.
I still have the bars that came with my bike, Eastern Atom bars, they've gotten bent but only from having to let go of my bike, and even after i bent them back, they hold up to anything i throw at them. They're a tad heavy, but tank as heck.

Cassette guts D: posted on 2006-03-31 23:19:01
Now, i'm pretty sure it's an easy task, and had one friend of mine instruct me as to it's simplicity, but my take is: you can never be too sure. So before i go diving into the greasy mangled guts of my cassette and mess things up, i'll run it by you guys.
Putting sudden pressure on my pedals makes my cassette skip several teeth, once it skipped 9 or so and i went right through to the ground : /
I was told i just need a new C ring and new pawls.
Which would cost less than ten bucks including shipping :P
It's a MSH cassette from a couple years ago, so the Ody guts will work, yes?
Any info / advice would be sweet
Thanks
Yeah I live about 40 45 minutes from there in Smithfield NC. I have never ridden trails before and was blown away at how nice they looked. I want to meet people in the area who ride. Its just a friend and myself now.
When is the best time to try and catch everyone there?
I know to take off my pegs before I go. Is there anything else I need to know? Are the locals over protective and secretive?
So if I get a chance to meet Gil do you want to send a message or anything?
Actually yes.
If you do see Gil, tell him Jason says hey, uhh, that one
kid who used to live with him :P
You don't need to take off your pegs unless you're going to ride the big section, which, if you can get through that section, you're a badass and you probably won't take it anyway. The little back section don't even worry about it, i have dug up mounds upon mounds of dirt messing up on that damn six pack >_<
I am horrible at flowing dirt....
The best time to catch people riding, i dunno, it's very spur of the
moment for those guys, i'd say friday afternoon. Brian Byrd, Lance Parbst, Colin ( forgot last name ), Butterman ( Brandon B. ), Luke ( forgot last name ), David Stroud, his brother Will Stroud, Hell you might even catch Ryan Barret if you're lucky :P He lives in Raleigh too.
But yeah, 401 is teh place to be i say :P

Hah yes i remember that dog.
Golden retriever, if i remember correctly.
He's all bark though, no worries :P
Oh man, when you get a chance, ride 401 when it's light out. it's a treat to ride. I really love the wallride and the transfer through the dig pit into the wooden quarter.
Gil is a fuggin scientist tho ( Literally, to be honest, he's a biologist ) with that place, he's got some gnar gnar wallride in the dig pit he's working on.
Too bad i'm not there anymore.
Cool that you got to see 401... you live in the area?
Campus is real fun, lots of guys ride there.
Anyways take it easy.

Over the autumn '05 i was living in Raleigh, NC.
I had the pleasure of living with Gil Whitten.
Cool guy.
Anyway he is currently the one responsible for the
way the the 401 trails look.
I'm not sure if you guys know 401, but i was honored
to ride there, as it was one of Chris Doyle's
frequented spots as he was becoming the god he is
today.
Gil is a scientist with the dirt, too. He's got it
down. The right mixture of brown clay / brown dirt,
then cap it off with red clay to make a rock hard
surface.
I grew up in the north east, and there isnt' much
clay up there. It was interesting to learn a new
system of trail packing.
Long live 401 !!

You must be refering to the Vandever.
Which is Mr. Homan's first name.

Also: Duffs makes the worst shoes on earth.
Uncomfortable, flimsy sole, bad stitching.
lasts about two months tops.

Riding in nice clothes seems foolish to me.
But i'm poor, what do i know.
Rich people can buy new pants whenever they want.
They don't have to roll up their right pant leg
when they ride.
:P
