Re: Toronto Bike Week: May 28 Demo - JAM June 2, Rain date June 9th posted on 2007-05-10 16:48:15

The City of Toronto DID NOT approve the JAM as requested for June dates even though the liability was approved. They have some strict regulations, this ASC cannot control. The freedom to ride is limiting. However the Demo for May 28th is approved, the Bike WeeK Organizers will let me know more details about the set up soon...long process! We wanted that riders and the Flatland community have a large concrete space to just ride and enjoy outdoors. I spoke to the City of Mississauga 2-1/2 weeks ago, and are cool about accommodating space but they want the date so preparations can be made....Neela We posted this on Global Flatland: Once the HamJam is confirmed, ( ChrisP trying to get a hold of you), ASC will hold The Civic Jam again, but not for late Sept as held last year due to weather. Please Ontario Flatlanders let ASC know what dates are best suited, so not to conflict with Flatland events especially the HamJam. A date is not set for this reason, however our city will need notification by next week for securing the space. We would have told them this week, but..... Thanks Action Sports Coalition

Re: Grudge: BMX vs. Skate posted on 2007-05-09 23:35:52

Well after seeing Paul the Flatlander from Hamilton ride the lot next to Mississauga SK8 Park....as a Skateboarder and someone who helped built this facility, I felt honored that he choose to ride there. His attitude was positive and a great human being in general. We helped get all the SK8 parks open to BMX/Bikes and so far everyone is respectful when using/riding, the way it should be. Sk8ers are highly territorial especially when there is lack of parks, this sharing of space created negative issues. The serious Sk8er/Sk8ers-for-life that I know, mind you more than a handful don't have a grudge or hate towards BMXers or Flatllanders. Some of them have friends and cousins who do the latter sports. If anything they love what someone like Paul can do with his bike. Hate breeds hate once it is put out or the willingness to change is open, its amazing when/how placing the "Human Factor" can shape many good things. Try the human factor when driving. Now some gossip for ya: Under the power of SK8/Money. A buddy of ours works in the film industry, the theatrical industry contacted them to setup an event for this weekend at CNE (The Direct Energy Building where the Toronto Metro Jam is held): 13 year old Jewish Girl is having batmitz-vah(what its called for girls), barmitz-vah (for boys), costing 2.1-2.5 million. Oh its a huge tax right off.......Tony Hawk is hired as guest star. BirdMan must be getting more than a good mil for this one. They set up the ramps this Friday for this biblical rock'n'roll shindig. Wonder what this girl will get on her 18th B-day. Insane money burning for the extreme rich. Hell, one can built an amazing Sk8/BMX Park with that kind of money or other things/matters. Too bad some of us aren't 13 and Jewish to crash this party...HA!
