Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-22 02:08:53

I donīt know whether to cry or to laugh bout the waving Justin off.......hahahaha, he did the cliff360 and straight after the plastkman combo and that only lacked Martti shouting "capiche?!"

however, martti snaked seriously like 2 times and by the second time alex went up to both justin and scott as far as I can see and talked about it. now, to blame all those falls on marttiīs behaviour  is pretty whack imo, if you feel youīre being held back or disadvantaged in any form and the guys in charge talk about it why not do something about it? you know, equal the tries out? Iīm not even getting into the trickdebate again....that stuff wasnīt remotely anywhere as much ahead of Kuoppa as you guys are making it out to be...

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-20 07:38:46

It could be of advantage if this thread would be divided into 3 other sticky threads, being a) structuring of contests b) whoīs better? MK or Miller and c) The ultimate beef thread. where all the europe vs. America shit can go into and Oui or whoever can let himself go as much as he wants.

PS: If you go as far as interviewing the two riders, why not interview the judges if you want to resolve the entire drama?

damn, the 06 model with 19" TT is the sex.

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-20 03:29:28

some of you guys really are taking the piss out of flatland.
itīs ridiculous seeing the growth of topics like this. While I donīt agree with everything wong fong said, that would have been a good point to stop this discussion.

I donīt want to add any fuel to the fire, but some stuff is so funny. Oui, if hitchhikers and blenders are so blatant, why donīt you go and do reverse Hitchs (standing on the handlebar)? Did Martti really have double the runs of Justin? Anyone read Marttis statement? Where he said that he stopped after the first notice. Anyone ever watched a breakdance battle before? While I donīt agree with all the yadda yadda about the simliarities between breakdance and FL this contest was organized kinda with both in mind. I also didnīt say that Justin is doing entire links off other people, itīs just that heīs more the guy comboing everything up, while Martti stresses signautre tricks (which happen to have influenced shitloads of riders.....) I also donīt get the whole argument Justin being able to do ALL of marttiīs tricks. Should he get a cookie for it?

Anyways, if you look at the big picture, what do you have? A legend who had a fucked up wrist last year and comes back strong. And this american guy pretty much coming out of nowhere, how many years younger? Anyone should be able to put 1 and one 1 together and see the outcome of this problem. Martti might not tackle this problem the best, but I donīt think Justins remarks of having to go back to school arenīt very polite either. kinda implying he has more important stuff going on in his life. Kinda portraying Martti as weakminded with his aggressiveness in the battle. Before this gets outta hand though I admit. thatīs taking it way off topic, it was simply a battle, I wouldīve liked to see live, but even the video was entertaining enough for me, so I say keep it up, with all this drama thex next one only can get even better!

PS: Pedalsteam to halfpacker? Michael Sommer sometime last year, just for the record....

How come no one mentioned the bobby fisher interview in props? Only the lord knows where my copy went, probably wasnīt even mine.....

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-19 15:35:36

Didnīt read into your sarcasm >Oui<, my claims arenīt outrageous though. I was just referring how you are making Justin out to be übercreative while I think "oh he got that from there, the newschool kids wonīt notice". nothing wrong with influences, you guys just seem to jump to conclusions.
I donīt think Alain will set up such an event just to get some of the best riders thrown out in the first round. whether it was raffled (?) or whatever, when I look at back at that voodoojam sceanrio it makes me think you guys should probably worry more bout your own contests....flat is whack right now. the scene that is.

glide bommerang? Youīre one hell of aprick arent you? Iīm not starting to argue with you. Leave!

Re: unfair contest!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 2006-09-19 15:00:23

you guys are funny. itīs not only terry vs justin, it was also, matti vs frank, matthias vs alex etc.....the idea probably was to get every rider motivated to give his best. whatever. thereīs a whole nother thread on this topic.....

MK rules the world of flatland!!!!

j/k

PS: the backwheel link I saw in the video by justin was halfway lend from james white by the way.

Why canīt we get sean peters, nate hanson, paul osicka, chad de groot, day smith etc back... those were the times.....

whack dramadramadrama over nothing.

the best of luck man. I was just wondering if a cleaner look to the site would attract more main stream people. probably wouldnīt hurt anyone. also, the beginning of the vid could be paced somewhat slower, other than that great stuff! suprised to see some steams, megaspins and stuff, lovin the last link though. havenīt seen that since background, itīs dope.

yeah pixies!

the dumptruck thing is dope, would have loved to see that completely....great style!

Re: 20min Flatring Video posted on 2006-09-14 02:27:48

pinky squeaking fan boys, eh?! some weak shit right there.

just skipped through the video again and noticed a few things.
first martti cheered for justin. secondly lots of pros cheering for martti on the other hand.
and as far as tricks go, can anyone say crosshalfhiker varial to opposite? crosshangtenswitch, opposite wheelchairthingy, 360 Cliff, all trciks you see exclusevely martti do in these variations and on top of that he came up with  them. and last time I cared I think Martti was the guy who started the whole HHkickflip thing back on the green kgb. The only og tricks in that video by justin are halfhiker 360 jump to halfpacker and that steamroller swing around standing on the opposite foot to halfpacker, which I must admit have seen by the likes of chiquet, adam kuhn and jumelin before. So again Iīd say youīd be left judging really long hard combos against the most original guy in the scene right now.

Anyways, everyone of you has missed the true winner of this weekend (besides MK obviuosly), namely the kid during adam kuhns combo in the first row at around 10:35. Thatīs what flatland is about.

Oh, and please be so kind and spare us your freakin stereotypes of europe already, especially if you havenīt been here. not everyone is running around in faded jeans, funky colors and with t-shirts on their head pretending theyīre the shit. If only MK anti hero and his friend would make a comeback to this forum, things would be alot funkier. yeah.

Re: 20min Flatring Video posted on 2006-09-13 15:20:22

yeah, thatīs all fine and dandy and stuff, but Iīm tired of people talking about originality when they do admittedly really long combos, which consist of variations, if not the same tricks, of others. Itīs not like Iīm saying Chase would have won flatring because of his original tricks from maybe 8 years ago (or whenever glote is from). You are talking like Marttīs tricks are outdated. You know, america this, europe that, blahblah, give us a complete videosection of justin and that might settle some future discussion. Iīm in no way belittling justinīs riding in any way, I jusīt donīt see how you can judge Martti from a freakin onlinevideo. On the other hand as for flatring, I saw even in the video, who had more fun, so there you go. thatīs all that matters. hah! good night mate.

PS: This old bag of tricks you refer to might go through as some serious freakin repertoire in someoneelses view. congrats on the strong words as well. pppffffff.....

One last PS: look at yanmar on the other hand, won CoB, Flatground and whatīs up today?

Re: 20min Flatring Video posted on 2006-09-13 14:39:40

flatario, you are referring to lines. I was describing how martti does his own stuff as far tricks go, whether it be 3 years old or not. when he came up he had a lot of 360 barflip stuff (that even terry does a whole lot even today) that were pretty much his own (at a really young age mind you). This may be a bit far fetched, but I think when justin started winning comps he was still very much influenced by viki. Iīm not a fan of the shirt thing or strong attitudes myself, but seriuosly give credit where credit is due. On the other hand I donīt think even 3 year "old" trciks are to be considered old. ask some pro (youīll most probably know it yourself through putting in endless hours) how long he "trained" for a combo and then there is still the point of going through with something that is only in your mind opposed to mimicking someone else. I might be rambling, but when I started, Martti was a huge influence in 5 combos and I still see the freshness from back then in his riding. sure he might have turned more into a badass, but seriously that last link he does in the video sums up what Iīm trying to get at. not to take anything away from justins halfpacker to HH kick, which is fucking epic imo as well. as far as trevor not competing overseas goes, that might have got to do with a certain canadian as well, doesnīt it? whatever.....go martti!!

Re: 20min Flatring Video posted on 2006-09-13 06:56:35

well put, jffe. Iīm totally with you on this one. I really donīt think Miller comes near Martti as far as originality goes. Also, what the other guy said about fun is very true. Martti cracked me up in this video, and this alone makes him the winner in my eyes in contrast to those überdialed combos. donīt get me wrong, they are pretty much endless, but itīs halfpacker, bomb switch, steamroller, bombswitch etc....while martti seems just to improvise as he goes along. hahaha, sitting down in the final.....and that last thing left me speechless.....

Oh and about europe sucking off Martti, how many comps has justin won in the past. iīm sure it pretty much equals out between the both. Itīs just a pretty ignorant thing to say.

thanks to global-flat!

PS: as far as marttiīs golden era goes, I value your guys opinions and think you know where youīre comin from, but wtf? those are pretty much  all own marttiīs tricks plus his new ones, I donīt see how thereīs even an discussion on originality.

Re: flatring posted on 2006-09-10 03:46:18

not much of a surprise.....
