I let my bike slam alot.  It's either me or the bike getting hurt.  I choose the bike.

I always enjoyed a Hang 5 at medium speed slowing down and kicking the tire and going to a backward no-footed Hang 5.  Fun fun fun...

Re: brakes....no brakes???? posted on 2006-08-03 20:41:24

Man, some of you make me laugh.  I've been riding with brakes for over 20 yrs. front and back.  If I wanted to ride brake-less, I just wouldn't grab my brakes.  Simple as that.  I guess it's a mind or trendy thing.  Any forward or backward rolling trick, I don't even think about grabbing my brakes because I don't feel like eating concrete.  Brake maintenance is a cakewalk if you know what you're doing.  If you want to use that as one of your excuses (brake adjusting) then I'm sorry.  You ride bikes, learn how to work on them.

I mean, come on, look at KJ.  That dude is a freakin icon to the sport and still rides with brakes.  If you look closely what he rides, he doesn't give a damn what his bike looks like or how much it weighs.  Watch the dorkin vids, he does multiple whiplash's with and without brakes.  I just hate excuses about why people take their brakes off because they hate working on them and want to keep up with the trends.  Are you going to take off your freecoaster because you don't know how to rebuild it?

Axl Pose not feeling good posted on 2006-08-01 15:16:31

From NME.com:

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose was taken ill on Sunday (July 30th) night, during the final UK date of the band's current tour.

The singer left the Wembley Arena stage and was replaced by Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach for the songs 'Night Train' and 'Paradise City'.

A UK representative for Guns N' Roses could not confirm the specific details behind Rose's illness.

Re: Crank Issues posted on 2006-07-28 21:58:20

There could be many reasons.  Check your hub and make sure it's not too tight.  Make sure your chain isn't too loose (scoot the wheel back).  You could even tighten your cranks a bit to keep from moving.

Hope that helps.

I know the Odyssey Strong Island's will fit, but heavy as hell.  The old knurled GT pegs will fit but hard to find.  Even the tapered London's will work.

How many of the old school guys guys still find themselves pausing when they see the number 43?

I loved the layout of GO.  The BIO's were great.

And i used to make headtube stickers out of the square logo on the cover.

Dude!  I have that issue with the Sean Leslie bio.  I loved Freestylin'.  I probably said that allready, but back then that zine was the bomb.  I think now it's all about ad's.

Re: double cable front brakes? posted on 2006-07-15 17:49:21

Here's the easy way I've used.

-Get you an Odyssey Slick cable

-Cut the housing equal lengths on both sides of the levers to the brakes

-Run the cable through one housing, through the brake and through the next housing to the other lever

-Clamp down an Odyssey Knarp on the end of the cable with no barrel

-Adjust as needed and go ride

Yea, I quit looking for Ride awhile back.  The same ole boring dude with pegs on one-side grinding on a rail just got old, quick.  I had a subscription, but quit about 5 years ago.  Magazines today just don't compare to Freestylin' from back in the day.  That mag had freakin everything!  Bad-ass articles, bike tests, and photography.  Lew and Spike Jonze freakin ruled in that mag.  I wish that would come back.  I miss it.

Re: need help on funky chickens posted on 2006-07-10 20:15:24

the way i learned was put the bike in a steamroller position.

put your foot over the bars on the tire.

grab your brakes.

jump up with your other foot and start scuffing.

what you want to do is use your foot as your brake.  just gradually ween yourself from using your brake (if you rely on them) and control the bike with your foot.  whether it would be putting more pressure as you scuff, or let off a little to glide a bit.  if you're grabbing w/ your right hand, learn to take off your left for style points.  hope that helps.

You need to get the DVD of the first 3 pantera vids.  It rocks and is funny as hell.  I've hung out w/ Vinnie and various friends of his at The Clubhouse (nude bar in Dallas partially owed by Pantera) and had a blast every time.  Vinnie is a cool cat and it's good to see him having a good time in spite of what he's been through.  Dime will NEVER be forgotton.

Re: mega spins posted on 2006-07-05 19:44:19

Try this:
(if your trying it clockwise)

with both feet on your back pegs, while swinging your right leg, lean to the left.

at the same time look to your right as you put your right foot on your tire to kick.

just swing your leg first, look and kick almost at the same time.

your bike won't have a choice but to spin.

it's important to look in the direction youre going.  turn your head and your body and bike will follow.

obviously, the quicker you kick, the faster you will spin.

-roll clockwise
-swing our leg
-pop up your front wheel
-look, kick (scuff), and spin at the same time.

that's the best that i can explain it.  try it.  i hope it helps.
