Woo Hoo!! Finally. I pulled and maintained hydrant turbine to steam and cruised 1 complete circle.
The circle was soo tight it turbined me right back out into a backward fork glide.
I guess my session was only gonna give me a taste of doing this 1 time only today, Tho I came close again a number of times. It felt amazing!!!

On another note, Last night was getting those turbined megaspins going forward again, And the bike seemed to come back up under my foot for a second kick to turbine. But I seemed to have no momentum by the time my foot hit the tire again. :-(

Rode today for about an hour. Im kinda finding by not riding every day, I come back to it more fresh from the last session.

Finally getting dork wheelie turbines pretty good. Coming out rolling forwards in one smooth motion. My next goal is to turbine for a second time. (hopefully soon).
Also trying hydrants to steams again, only this time I was practicing by rolling backwards (right hand on right grip, left hand on seat) and kinda trying to pull myself around into the forward steam. This hand positioning used to feel so weird to me, that I wouldnt even try it. I haven't got this one yet, but It feels much easier than the other way I was trying to do them. There might be a little problem once I get them to balance a steam well in this position, but its feeling a lil easier all the time.

Getting steams>funky chickens>back to steams on the regular once I warm up. Im actually been working on another out from this link besides a smoothie. I was trying to hydrant out of the last steam in the link . I also thought about a mccircle because It feels like I could start mccircling out of the steam better than just trying a straight mccircle. (which I cant seem to get the feel of normally)

Anyway that was my session.

When I was young, Me and the guys in the neighborhood were already building small dirt jumps in a vacant lot. Back then Racing was like the HOT thing. Me and my buddy were watching tv one day and saw a Mcdonald's commericial and these kids were racing bmx. At the very end of the commercial, 2 guys rode towards eachother did footjam endos and high fived.
Me and my buddy totally lost our shit after seeing that. Front brakes came soon after that, and then skyway made axle pegs, the rest is history.

Re: Probably sounds crazy, involves disc brakes and grinding posted on 2006-07-07 18:31:50

I dont really see an advantage in bmx. One of the main reasons mtbs moved over to discs is because they work well in wet/muddy conditions, Where as a wet V/U brake just slides on the rim.

If you were gonna do it, you'd pretty much be stuck with having the rotors on the left side of the bike, as most hubs have disc mounts on that side. (hope you dont grind to that side).

Your looking at new hubs, and possibly axle modifications to solid axles (10mm) thats like shimano or something. For something already 14mm solid axle w/rotor mounts, Its probably gonna be $$$
phil wood, chris king, profile, not really sure who makes em.

Hey Joe,

I messeged you a couple of times about the forks, Maybe you didnt get the PMs.

Im interested .

Re: Todays Riding posted on 2006-06-28 21:55:39

Im forever playing with my bar position. Seems parallel with the forks is really where its at. I guess this is pretty nuetral and you can feel when the balance changes more acutely.
Have not ridden in like 4 days (rain). A nice little break none the less.

Feeling a little better about backwards Karls. Feeling really good in my 1 kick to turbine forwards megaspins. Still stepping into switch handed steams and stepping and getting the balance pretty good in right grip/left hand on the seat steams. I have found lashing into steams with my right hand *underhanded* on the grip controlls the lash really good, but feels awkward to grab the seat with my left hand. So I tap and grab the seat and cruise almost as good as a standard steam, but not in controllable circles yet.

Its humid as hell here, even at 10pm. Slipin' and slidin' all over my bike. Almost busted seriously several times. Anyway, thats my session.

Re: Hoffman SD-4 frame posted on 2006-06-28 17:05:35

I just sold an SD 4 on ebay, so I can tell you mine had an "aheadset" 1 1/8. I see no problem on running a modern zero offset fork in there. Should build up nicely.

The best grip-tape out there is on the Function Pegs. All that have ridden them agree.

OH YEAH! Been running mine since your auditioned them on Ebay. No signs of tape going anywhere in the near future. :-)

For Sale or trade: Suelo Alto bars cut to 23" posted on 2006-06-23 17:52:38

Im looking to get rid of these Suelo Alto bars, Or possibly trade for some uncut suelo Alto bars.
I bought them cut to try a narrower bar, and didnt like the size too much, but Is the perfect height for me. If anyone would like to trade a set of uncut Altos for these, I'll swap even and throw in the brand new ODi longnecks for free.

Thanks,

John

not the best pic to get a view, but I think this is the same style platform for dividuals.
Let me know how the project goes.

Re: AN INTERESTING MODIFICATION posted on 2006-06-21 21:33:24

Hrm.. I dunno , Most likely Ody would charge you out the a$$ for custom if at all.
I would buy a spare pair of forks that you like, take em to a machine shop, have em drill holes in the forks, then reinforce/reweld them with tube stock, kinda the way haro forks were to begin with.
then repaint. Thats prolly the best bet for getting fold up haros to work.

Re: Todays Riding posted on 2006-06-21 21:24:19

Been hot here. Like 82 degrees at 10pm humidity high. Rode about 45 minutes. Dorkin around is mostly what i do when I ride alone and its hot.

Been endoing into and kicking backwards Karls about 4 good kicks tonight. Rolling them seems easier than scuffing them.

Brakeless transition from steam to FC becoming the norm.

Still strugglin with the mechanics of whiplashes. But technically coming close.

Able to walk into and roll switch handed steams about as good as when I first learned regular steams, bout half a circle.

Hope I can get some stuff wired this summer, swamp ass kills tho.

Re: AN INTERESTING MODIFICATION posted on 2006-06-21 19:58:02

You could try some GT fork standers, not as much out of the way as Haro ones, but they bolt on and are plentiful on ebay. I was never a big fan of High pegs, But lots of people used to rip on high pegs like RL and Martin. I could definately see high pegs being integrated into new school for switch type tricks and stuff.

Dude, your good for about 10 more years of not having bad luck.
I had a similar thing happen all in a day. It involved my appartment getting totally cleaned out, my car getting nailed, my gf breaking up with me, and my girl roomate moving out because she was freaked out by the robbery. Its as if all bad was focused on me that day. That was like 7 years ago.
In my case, and hopefully you case better stuff should happen to you in the years to come.

Its like a Karma clearing house. I know this dont help now, but things will look up soon.
