So im looking for NAZI seats. posted on 2005-08-08 08:31:05

Oh man he is so cool. I, being German, get accused of being Nazi. It's horrible cause my great uncle lost BOTH of his feet going through snow barefoot escaping Nazi's. None the less, I dont think most kids understand the horrible things Nazi's truly did. JFos: You got pics of this seat? What frame are you on now>
Yeah everyone blames the germans, but they do not think about the fact that a great number of people that died in the camps were german citizen themselves... And not just the Jewish people: homosexuals, Jehovah witnesses, gypsies.

The thing is: of the germans that are alive today, no many were there during WW2. So let it be. Let's all learn from history and stop putting labels on people.

He's refering to the 88/Ares products as "NAZI" because of an article somewhere - a year ago, maybe? - that linked the "88" name to a Nazi squad during WW2. Plus, "Ares" is the god of war, thus the japanese flatlander are conspiring to overthrow world peace....

I think it's safe to assume he's being sarcastic.

Getting into Funky Chicken from... posted on 2005-08-04 07:50:19

Since I'm still building my balance on one wheel I find it easier to get into front wheel scuffing tricks by doing a trackstand first (yeah yeah, laugh at me all you will).

I've been trying them into Funky Chickens but the sudden jolt of pulling the seat and stepping over the bar at the same time gets me off balance each try. Do you guys have any ideas on another way to do this?

Trackstands... Can pull them most of the time...

I can actually scuff them into scuffing fork wheelies sinc I discovered that special magic spot on my shoes that really grips the tire. I cant wait for the freaking rain to stop so I can experiment further down that path. Funky chickens, wheelchairs, who knows?

Confusing indeed! But I get the picture, thanks!

I did ask for the Dorkin' boxed set for my b-day in spring but I never got it... :(

Let's hope there's still some left for x-mas...
Actually, Ceppie Maes thought up the name and then had to make up a trick to fit it. It was a lawnmower variation. As Far as I know, there are only two guys who ever pulled the double stubble with the brake on. It's hard.

The oppuduck is the reverse in which the bike is stationary and the rider pivots 360 degrees on the peg.

History lesson is over. Quiz next Friday.
And what's the scrambled leg?

can any1 explain to me on how to do a g-turn posted on 2005-07-27 09:34:03
my suggestion is to learn Guages first. er, aa... I mean backwards nose wheelies..:)

I learned guages on a wedge ramp/slanted bank/hill thing. with brakes.

that helped me get the balance needed for rolling backwards on my front wheel. then add the front wheel 180 and you got 'em!

such a cool, fun trick. on banks they rule, slight nose wheelie into it, 180 to backwards nose wheelie back down the bank.
At one point in Roadfools Down South, Jay Miron does a nose wheelie up a narrow ramp to a backwards nose wheelie down. Insane!

New to BMX, plenty of questions... posted on 2005-07-19 09:13:48

On thing you can do is start with a cheap all-around, entry-level bike. It wont prevent you from learning the very basics and you wont be too sorry if it breaks. Then you'll know what to look for your next bike, street, flat or hybrid.

I'd point to towards the pedalwiki for parts description but that section is quite empty right now.

I'm sure you can find something on the web.

Some common features on a flatland frame:

- Short top tube (less than 20')
- Short BB lenght (the distance between the BB and the back wheel axle)
- Steeper head angle, around 75 (but not always! The KGB has 73 I think?)
- Lighter overall, some even use aluminium or titanium.
- Brake tabs usually placed so they are out of the way, if you they're even there at all.
- Gussets and curved tubes for room. Usually means the down tube, or less commonly the seatstay like the Darwin.
- the seat tube has a shorter portion of it comming out of the TT junction, requiering a slim post clamp.
- American BB are less popular with flat frames, but that's a general trend now.
- 3/8 " axle slots although a lot are available with 14 mm version ? (correct me on this, I always though 14mm was the old BMX standard but now streeters seem to favor the smaller 3/8)

Lol, a steamroller without a freecoaster! I guess that's why you wear shin pads.

Be careful not to hurt yourself on the ugly ass ramps, is the frame strong enough to survive a slam?

19 1/4 seems a popular choice. I would have guessed more 19 TT.

Why flatland? posted on 2005-07-12 09:30:01

During my teens, BMX had been synonimous with the movie "RAD" (yeah, I was a teen in the 80s), which was translated in french to something even goofier like "The BMX Gangsters". I did not even use a bike until 1 was 12 or 13. My first bike was a 10 speed from Canadian Tire and since there was a lot of empty spaces around where I lived, I took to dirt jump.

Fastforward 4 years ago, I moved back to downtown Montreal and saw people spinning 'round on kids bike. They had pegs on their wheels and where actually standing on them. It was an artform where they spun and fliped the bikes in unusual positions.

A year later I stumbled upon a BMX website and learned about the sport. I saved some money and bought a Hoffman vert bike. I've riding flat ever since, still doing street and dirt once in a while. I havent had the skill / gut to try ramps yet.
Because if you're riding flat, theres no way you can tear your asshole like van homan did.
Actually, I've heard of people getting a taste of their bar ends up there.... While riding flat.... So I wouldnt scratch that as an impossible injury. Just wear a buttplug and you'll be fine.

Day Smith. Even though he's burly as a football player he balances like a ballerina. I wonder how he does that, seriously.

Oh, and the little fat kid on a mongoose that rides in the back alley a few blocks from where I live.
