thats not a good START at all, aside from x-ups

try one footers, one handers, keep doing turnbars until you can get a full x-up.
when you get those tricks down good you should try front tire grabs/front peg grabs, can cans, ect..
mix things up with like one hander one footers (half of a nothing) and one footed x-ups (one handed x-ups are really tough)

no footers are a trick that some people just pick up extremely easily, but a lot of people have trouble with them. if you want to try them, i would say start by just lifting your feet above the pedals first and not extending them, to get the feel of it without killing your shins

don't try barspins yet

if you can do everything easier on a mountain bike then take everything further. like you can do a 360 on a bmx then doing a 540 on a mountain bike should be the challenge. i dont know, something like that

what pedals do you have now duncan?

and to whoever said that if they have big pins they will grip better, thats not really true
i used to have dk iron cross pedals, and the pins were pretty big and sharp, but they had like no concave and my feet would always slip offf
my legs are so terrible looking just from them

thennnn i wised up and got some tenderisers, loved them, then after i need new pedals i got jim c's, and also loved them. i still ride them now

i would definitly go with jim c's or primos, i've never ridden the animals but they look nice

riding in grass really helps slow you down

and if you want your shoes to last longer, like stomp down on the ground to slow down and stop, instead of dragging your feet or putting them in the tire
