Re: Baaaarrrssss meh and the ones you drink at too :D posted on 2006-06-21 22:09:16

maybe I missed something...

But didn't Jim Cielenski go off to make his own company (Sunday) but Odyssey makes the parts? 41Thermal is exclusive to Odyssey, so the only way Sunday bars are 41thermal is through odyssey.

So they're all the same.

and most 2-pc. bars are similiar. besides breaking them because they are too light, you're really beating around the same tree. 7"rise and 25" width is 'normal' and if a company doesnt offer that exactly...they get damn close to it.

2-pc. bar market is just all brand loyalty...

Re: how long till you got good.... posted on 2006-06-21 14:53:08

I've been riding for 7 years so far...

But I only got good when I god a bendy frame and got my bike to weoght 20lbs. Titanium really made me a good rider.

nah I actually realized 'something' when I did good at the King & Queens contests (not a huge statement), was asked to do demos, offered free stuff, invited on road trips/tours, panhandled for dinners, and sometimes, girls think I'm some kind of magician. and talk dirty to me :|

Re: most common question people ask you bout riding posted on 2006-06-21 14:48:42

"do a wheelie"  The insant response for that is just giving them the finger.

"how much was your bike?"  the response for that is something along the lines of...'so much money that I can't let people ride it'

"can you do a backflip" response for that "I used to be able to do it when I could fly"

"dhjfbjfhb bikes bhjjkh teenagers" When we're all on the boardwalk and the shoobees are pissed off because they drove all the way to NJ to see how cool I am.

"Yo gear is mad smallL!"  I usually just ride away shaking my head when I get that one.

"nice bike!..." some guy in a neon colored civic with a huge wing will say that. I make up a new comeback to that nearly every day. Recently Tokyo Drift references are awesome.

It may really be a matter of height and size. Bobby Carter does them, but he's quite tall and very skinny.

Trackstands are seriously insanely easy to land if you do them a normal way. I'll assume you throw into a fork glide frmo the left side of the bike. Well, you slow down to a near stop. you bring your body so your 90* to the bike on the left side of the bike. with the front brake clenched (you can squeak it too) you put your right foot on the toptube of the frame. stall theres for a second to spot your pedals (as long as one pedal is forward you're good, they cant be up and down) you keep the foot on the frame, and bring the peg leg to a pedal, or vice versa. its so easy.

Re: who's the tallest rider you've seen on a short frame? posted on 2006-06-11 11:08:01

Stephen Cerra is at least 6' (I think) and he rides a Quamen Clad (18.75"tt?)

Re: How old are you? posted on 2006-06-11 11:07:01

I'm 19yrs. old and I wear size 4 jeans...

I really wear 30's or 28's....it depends. And I'm like 5'9"

Re: Fire Hydrants and Steamrollers posted on 2006-06-09 12:14:08

I know it all depends on the person... but within the same 4 month flatland 'trial' phase, I learned:

trackstands, fork glides, fork wheelies, squeakers, no-footed squeakers, dork wheelies, steamrollers, cyclones, mccircles.

It took me a while to understand half-lashes. but the steamroller (I think) is the easiest trick on the front wheel. You can scooter around if you slip out or lose balance. backwards seem harder, cus most my links are fwds now

Re: can odyssey freecoaster withstand street? posted on 2006-06-07 22:33:01

the poverty hub is still, and always was the same exact thing as the previous odyssey freecoaster and haro turbine freecoaster.

Poverty doesn't make any of their own parts. It's just a label, and I don't know makes the parts for them. But in this case, every internal part of the hub is odyssey. the Odyssey RELOADER is the the fairly new freecoaster, and is different than the Poverty/Haro in a few ways. It is an improvement.

Don't use Poverty parts. ever.

Re: Cursive Appreciation Thread posted on 2006-06-07 00:35:54

Just lately, I've been listening to them alot. I had a mix cd made for me of Cursive and The Faint. awesome stuff. not my style (typically) but I really get into it...lol. Makes my drive to work pass better.

GUITAR HERO!!! posted on 2006-06-07 00:33:49

My girlfriend just bought Guitar Hero for Playstation 2, and damn is it addicting!
Anyone have it/played it?

I love playing the Helmet and MegaDeth songs! I've only been at it for a week now, I can beat most of the levels on medium.

I watched a friend beat 'Bark At the Moon" by Ozzy on Expert without screwing up, and like barely paying it any attention. But he doesn't ride so he has time to do these kind of things, lol.

fav. song? comments?

Thanks.

...Anyone going to Sounds of the Underground? I have yet to see Gwar live :-o and I'm excited. July 16th in Camden, NJ. Gotta brave the bullets to get there, but its worth it.

Re: if u could pick just one song posted on 2006-06-07 00:23:47

to the one who said Army of Me by Bjork, cool pic!

I like 'Agenda Suicide' by The Faint alot.

alot of Pretty Girls Make Graves songs could make my cut too, because I don't find her voice to be distracting.

Re: damn 6/6/06 posted on 2006-06-06 23:19:33

Ouch! I've been there, but it's usually from riding street or volleyball.

well for my 6/6/06, I hit and killed a BAT. It flew directly into my windshield while driving about 50mph!

A friend of mine of blew up his freecoaster, and called up odyssey... and through the niceness of their hearts, they helped out.

its worth a try?

My friends have this website www.innocentbystander.net

I never really came to think of this till now, but only one person on the team is a member of PedalBMX.com
ThrowTheBars. I think he only made a few posts on here, but he's Mike Paton in [glow=red,2,300]real life[/glow] and he does way too many candybars. They have a video out (been out, actually) and it was sold in DansComp for a while. real good vid, lots of funny clips, strippers, carnage, etc. It got good reviews by a few of those aforementioned real people.  So ummm...check the site. they have a myspace too. loads of fun!

BTW, this isn't a "look at my friends! wow! they're so good! X-GAMESSS!!!1111!" posts. I'm not some kid that just joined, and rides once a week...

just trying to bring some fresh things to PedalBMX

Re: can odyssey freecoaster withstand street? posted on 2006-06-06 21:49:47

It's kind of like a luxury item, or something to add flare to your stale riding. So keep in mind that you probably don't NEED a freecoaster. you may very well be wasting your money. Sure it may be trendy, but keep in mind that Ian Schwartz is GOOD, and that he can get away with using it to push his riding.

For starters, I ride a Nankai Techno-Lite F/C. it has a 3/8" axle and Unsld. bearings. My wheel doesn't wobble at all, it has less than an 1/8 of a pedal turn in slack (which is perfect, it needs to have slack so theres room for human error, or it just engages.) It rolls like a dream and my wheel is perfectly true. Yes I ride flatland, but I ride street and park on the side. I've half-cabbed hips, slammed nose-picks down off coping to flat on accident, done many a sketchy 180, and really jarred the thing bad. I know how to work on my bike though, so this isn't a problem.

the new Odyssey Reloader is sort of a heavy-duty freecoaster. it's consistent enough to have new-age Ian Schwartz sheep happy, And easy enough too for seasoned f/c riders to work on. It has a 14mm axle, and Sealed bearings, which allready keep maintence lower as compared to the Nankai. before the Odyssey (Reloader) the original Odyssey hub is the exact same (sans hub shell and laser etched logo...) as the Poverty and Haro Turbine F/c.  The new hub is an improvement over the prior design, but it's not completely different. The new KHE f/c. is all the rave these days (check the flatland forum) but I've never ridden it/worked on it. But it operates in different ways than the others and uses axle studs, not one continuous axle.

So my answer to your question is will it hold up? of course it will, if you know what your doing. If you throw your bike, and don't even really do any fakie tricks, I would say you are just wasting your money. the pedal slack usually throws most street riders away before it's even given a fair shot to perform, wear in, and be worked on...

So your money might actually be better spent on those titanium stem bolts.
