i have a monolever (small one) and i love it.

the small shape is out of the way, so you are less likely to catch it in your pocket when you do turndowns (i can't turndown anyway).
it's just big enough to comfortably fit 2 fingers on, if your brakes are any good you won't need more than 1 or 2 fingers anyway.
the monolever uses brass bushings instead of the plastic ones found in regular levers, which makes it feel stiffer and the lever doesn't wobble as much. and you get a spare set of bushings and a spare nut/bolt so you can rebuild the lever when the time comes.

i would definately recommend the monolever, it is really good. and with 3 different shapes/sizes it appeals to everyone (except for brakeless people, of course)

one more thing, if you are buying a new lever because you are adding a front brake then i would suggest spending the extra cash and buying 2 new levers at the same time (2 of the same lever) to keep it feeling even.

ps. the monolever is only available as a right hand lever. however, it is designed to be flipped for used on either side.
i run mine on the left side and it works perfectly.
just buy 2 monolevers and run one on the right (regular side) and flip the other over for the left side.
