| I think I would consider Rites of Spring the first emo band.
Sunny day real estate, promise ring, eliot smith, bright eyes are all good emo but I don't think there can be a label of true emo, since no badns consider themselves emo. And whoever said emo doesnt take as much talent as punk..... Although I love punk, it doesnt take very much talent, it's the passion put into playing it, exactly like emo. Just a different passion.... ![]()

| The descendents, while being "punk" are actually emo to me. And they date to way back when. In a hot air balloon Corrinado flies over the sea for Leora today And in one day He went from his cell to the sky At his last chance to fly | |

| there is nothing emo about weezer's first album.
rights of spring being the first emo band... someones been researching this on the net too much. hardly anyone has heard stuff by rites, because there stuff is so hard to get hold of. for me, the origional emo is stuff like joy division, bob dylan, billy bragg etc etc. now THATS true emo, without the label. .NSF YOUTH CREW.

| It wont let me edit my post for some reason so I had to make another reply.
Thats exactly what I was going to say about Weezer's first album, thier second one is the only one I would put under Emo. And I'm not sure but I'm almost positive Promise Ring was around before Weezer, and they were much more "emo." But don't quote me on which band was first.... ![]()
