but i want to get back into this.  i live in maryland and im 25.  the last time i was on a bike i was about 18 and a guest at the x games quaters.  i had 3 bikes, a redline 620, and old chro robinson, and a dyno compe for messing around.  i sold the bikes about 2 years ago and havent thought about them since.  then a few weeks ago, an old bmx friend reached out to me, he bought a Haro street bike and it is so sweet.  anyway, i want to get back into this, but so much has changed and i need some help.  i went to a local store near me, but the sales guy was pushy and i wasnt thrilled with what i saw, mostly mongoose and trek.  my budget for a bike is going to be no more than $400, so, any suggestions?  is whole bike the way to go, or will it be cheaper to buy the parts and assemble mysleft?  and i want this bike for street primarily, what bikes do you guys like and why?  thanks for your help, i cant wait to get back on!

Go with the Eastern or the DK.
Hoffman bikes are way too heavy, and cheaply built.  Free Agents are pretty shitty as well.
The eastern will be lighter and pretty tough, the DK will be reasonably heavy, but very tough.

If it were me, i'd buy the Eastern, i've had one for a couple years now,
it's treated me pretty damn well, and Eastern has really been
stepping up in the past few years.  Damn good bikes if you ask me.
I hadn't touched on the issue of in house construction, not sure if you
care about where your bike is built. But if you examine the bikes closely,
you'll find that Eastern puts better parts on their bikes than the other
companies on your list.  check it out man, look into it. Make yourself
a well informed buyer.
Most importantly, have fun on whatever bike you've got  = )
Ride on, man.
