You don't have any problems with that subwoofer right next to your 360? My friends 360 was sitting next to the subwoofer for his surround system, and all the data on the hard drive got corrupted.... Something about loud music pumping through the magnet seems to kill the hard drive... Hopefully thats a very well magnetically shielded sub... The 600w aiwa subwoofer I have sits on the floor 8ft from my tv, yet when I got the volume up really loud I can see the corner of the tv fickering purple....

Nope, no problems for me thus far and I've had it there for a while now. Although, now that you bring it up, I might move it just in case. Can't be too careful.

side note: LOL!!! I just barely noticed the "Post" button...how incredibly large it is! Guess people complained too much about not being able to see it?

Heres sony's sales numbers and profit report.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/30/technology/30sonycnd.html?hp&ex=1170219600&en=68aeb23bef2f2212&ei=5094&partner=homepage

Apparently sony blames the losses on its price and poor marketing... I would definately have to agree that the ps3 was over engineered. Had they spared the blue-ray and left it as an optional add-on to cut the cost down to a reasonable level... I think they would have achieved the top seller position...

Im sure since the wii is pulling a 2-1 ratio in japan, they will be able to pull some game developers attention their way... game developers aren't going to ignore that kind of profit potential....

On a side note.. I saw that theres a mod chip for the wii already out, and a means to copy the games.... apparently you can use an lg dvd-rw drive to copy the games.... something about the lg dvd drive, makes it able to read the games full image.... other dvd drives can't read the full game image for some reason... I can't remember why, but I read an article about it on a web site a few weeks ago that seems to be down now....

My friends xbox took a while to get screwed up, so just as long as you don't leave that sub next to it for a long time, you should be fine... He had his there for about 4 months before things went wrong... He called me up to see if I could figure out why he kept losing all his save games... and it took me about 2 seconds of looking at his setup to figure out why.

Yeah, I'll probably end up moving the subwoofer away from the 360. Just need to find a cord long enough that will hook up with the sub and the reciever.

As for seperating Blu Ray from the PS3, I don't think that was ever Sony's considerations. Why? Because the Blu Ray was always intended to be used for games. The storage capacity limit was something they wanted to solve long term. If you were to seperate the two(game unit and BR player) you fall back on forcing the BR player only to be used for movies. Why you ask? It's simple, once you seperate the player, devs will release games on DVDs. Now, in the last generation, that was ample. Sure, you can say that they can patch it and allow the player to be used for games at a later date when it's needed. So when that time comes, developers are now releasing their games on BR disks. How does that affect gamers that don't have the extra add-on and are forced to purchase it just to play the newer games? Unlike MS, they are currently stating that the add-on is strictly for movies only because they don't want to deal with that future problem with gamers. You have to agree with me that will become a HUGE problem to face if MS ever decided to change their stance on the HD DVD add-on and games.

Sure, you might argue that games right now don't need the capacity that BR disks affords them. But there is one game I would add in the near future that will break that argument. Blue Dragon on the 360 that's slated to come out in March/April. That game will require the player to play through 3 DVDs in order to experience the full game. I am not against swapping out disks as it's been done before. But why go backwards when you're trying to push your system as next-gen? I honestly don't think MS was thinking longterm when they decided to keep the HD DVD player for movies only. I am currently playing Gears of War on the 360 right now. I must admit, it's an awesome game and some of the in-game cinematics has my jaw dropped. The visuals in that game is definitely ones that show off the 360's power. However, I'm not done with the game yet but I've heard how short it was. Is this the result of lack of development time, or lack of storage on the DVD medium? I can expect first generation games to be short in length because the team was too busy trying to get used to the hardware and production pipelines. But for a second generation title? You would expect more from it right?

I wouldn't worry about developers being swayed from making games on other consoles. It would just mean that in order to cover the wide market of gamers, they will need to staff up to cover the need for Wii development and PS3/360 development. It's too bad that the hackers have already found a way to duplicate Wii games. Luckily for Nintendo, they are making a profit off of every console sold. I've also visited a few Nintendo fan sites(forgot which one as I browse through many gaming sites each day), but some of the loyal fans are wanting more in-depth games like Zelda: TP. Some of them have voiced out how they've grown tired of the mini/party games that seems to be the only kind of games being released on it right now. Shouldn't that be of a concern for Nintendo? Or do you think it should keep on promoting the mini/party game genre? If so, then that clearly defines the line between party gamers and single/online player gamers who want deeper, epic games.

As for swapping discs....  It may very well be a better alternative to large capacity discs... The problem with the new media formats is that the size went up, but the speed of seek times has not.... that is the main reason blue ray and hd-dvd are not well suited to be a gaming media.. Several Developers have complained about having  to duplicate data on the blue ray discs because it would cause latency in the game due to seek times not being all that much faster than dvd. This is something that microsoft has expressed concern about... The size of these discs have increased dramatically, but the read times are not increasing proportionately. Because of the need to duplicate data on the disc to fix the latency issue, the size of the disc wont be much of an improvement over dvd... This is one of those situations where your not going to have your cake and eat it too... Dev's wont be able to utilize all of the space on the disc to create giant real world 3d stuff because the media isn't capable of feeding the system the data it needs fast enough.... The blue ray drive is really the performance bottle neck. The cell processor is more than capable of handling more data than the blue ray drive can feed it.... The difference between blue ray and regular ol dvd as far as a game disc format wont be great enough to justify the costs.... Sure you could make the games longer with out swapping discs, but most certainly not more realistic/indepth than what you could do with dvd... The drive can't feed the data that much faster than dvd... Swapping discs isn't so bad... Even if the drive was connected with a sata II cable(which im sure the blue ray is), thats still only 3Gbps, which is the same bottle neck that most sata dvd drives have.... its not faster.... just larger... large doesn't equate into more indepth games than dvd... just longer on 1 disc....  It all comes down to the economic principal of opportunity cost.... is switching to a drive format over 10x more expensive than the current standard worth the extra size if it doesn't proportionally increase speed? I really don't think so...
A while ago I had read about a "in the works" dual sided dvd like format that used a raid like technology to double the read speed, by having the same data on both sides of the disc reading it with 2 lasers at once outputting with 2 sata II cables... but the technology couldn't get the funding to make it to the market due to the industry fighting over blue-ray and hd-dvd.... had blue ray copied that, it might be worth it... Theres a million and 1 reasons both blue ray and hd-dvd are a mistake... and the speed to size ratio is a big one...

As for the nintendo games... Yeah, there needs to be a lot of work on games other than the mario party type games... You really can't beat a lot of those fun party type games though when you got a ton of people over.... Playing wii sports with 4 people drunk as fuck is by far some of the best video game time I've had in a long time...
