ReplyHow long has it been since "Mission Accomplished" day? If the mission had been Accomplished, does that mean that we are still at war? Why does the news networks care about the death toll in Iraq so much that they always report on it? Reguarding the previous question, for a War, this has been a merry little conflict, more people died in the first 10 minutes of the D-Day invasion. Will there ever be another honest war? Where we go fight for what needs to be fought for, and not against the Red Tide or dictators we don't like? Am I the only person that thinks that Bush's privatising(sic?) of social security is an excelent idea? Seriously, do any of the 40 and 50 year old something senators and congressmen know that they won't get social security when they come of age for it? Why does it seem that only old people complain when we try to change things like Social Security? Granted its bad for them, but the way the system works now, its bad for everyone else. When Janet Jackson's boob came out during the SuperBowl, the soccer moms of America arose as one and smited the FCC and the network companies for their full Live on air practises, so god forbid, we never get to see another old black persons boob again. Why aren't people rising as one to smite old people? Speaking of old people, why the hell do we allow people that can't drive, to continue driving. I live about 7 miles from my job, all back roads, and I got cought behind a bunch of old people doing well below the speed limit a number of times. It usual takes me 10 minutes to get to work, today it took 30. What the hell hapened to Iran? You think after N Korea supposedly tested nukes, Iran would have stepped up the effort to be noticed, but no one seems to care anymore. Look at the Venezulean guy, to still the attention from Iran, he called Bush the devil, and admit it, the whole blessing himself, then saying it still smelt like sulfur up on the podium the day after Bush was there, it was really funny.
Last question, Speaking of N. Korea, does Kim Jung-Il actually own any other clothes other than prision fatigues and those 2 pairs of glasses (sun glasses and typical clear glasses)? Does he know he looks like mechanic? Do you think in the N Korea palace, they have an entire closet filled with Prision Fatigues?
Sorry, but the forum needed a little humour and a little thought provoction. Its been too serious lately.

ReplyThose are some good questions.... I really really really think once you pass the age of 60, you should have to retake your drivers test every year.... I know so many old people that still drive that shouldn't be allowed to handle scissors lete alone a car... Im talking people that just bulldoze down an entire blocks worth of mail boxes driving down the side of the road and not know whats going on.... Who ever gives these people a licsence should be charged with what ever crimes the old people commit... an accomplis is an accomplis.... if my friend can be charged as an accomplis for just knowing about a crime and not reporting it, the people at the bmv should be charged too! They know those old people aren't safe behind the wheel, yet still hand them a new license... They know damn well someones gonna get hurt, yet they don't do anything.. they are just as guilty!
Iran and N korea are allies aren't they? its only a matter of time before N korea hooks them up and then BOOM! no more israel.... WW3 (or 4 depending on who you ask) is on the virge of exploding.... N Koreas gonna go postal and start lobbing nukes... then the rest of the world is going to nuke N korea off the map... then the rest of the world will die a slow horrible nuclear wintery death..

You know that Iran is most likely closer to becoming a nuclear state than N Korea is considering their last nuclear test was almost a complete failure right? North Korea doesn't give two shits about Iran. KJ just wants to isolate himself further than he already has to maintain a stronghold on the absolute power he holds over his people. North Korea just doesn't have the technology or the money to fund a steady nuclear project in the same way that Iran does. It is completely against KJs perogative as far as I know, to "start lobbing nukes" at anyone because the outside world is the only way North Korea can continue to survive in it's current (albeit pitiful poverty striken) state. The free world provides most of its food and pays for most of what gets built based on the threats that KJ sends out every few weeks or so. It doesn't take an asshole with a degree in political theory to see how well it works based on the past few weeks of missle tests and failed warheads to see that he got everyones attention. What happend after he said sorry to China? The threat of sanctions were dropped and the food supply was picked up again.
Old people shouldn't drive. Period. I don't think there is a majority in this country that thinks otherwise, however I doubt you'll see a "keep the fogies off the road" amendment to any bills passed in congress in the near future because most people middle age and up... vote.
The news networks care about the death toll in Iraq because most people who bite it arn't soldiers, they're civilians. Johns Hopkins just released a study that claims almost 600,000 iraqis have died since the initial invasion. I wouldn't start calling that "merry" just yet my friend.
I commend President Bush for trying to tackle social security, but I fear that it will have to be a complete and utter failure before anyone takes notice. We'll see. Thankfully I'm young enough so that the baby boomers approaching retirement will run out of money and get on the ball with dealing with the SS issues long before anyone my age will. However, again, we'll just have to wait and see for congress to line up its perogatives so that they deal with real issues instead of flag burning and homophobia.
Also, most 40 and 50 year old senators don't really have to worry about social security since they'll be more dependant on their cushy 100K a year salery they make off the american people. Middle and lower class seniors are the ones who should be getting their Depends in a twist because the current members of the House and Senate couldn't care less, they're the ones being taken care of.
Also, no. There will never be an honest war just like their probobly hasn't been one since world war two that we've been involved in. I'm still waiting for someone in the US government to step up and start picking up the slack on Darfur, but since we're so scared of somalia 2.0, i doubt that will happen.
There arn't any real good answers to any of the questions you've posed so.. I don't know what else to tell you than to be optimistic and involved.

Replyno Tj not even WW2 is "honest" anymore.
We knew that attacks were coming.
We killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Japanese under lies.
no TJ people will say the JEws never were slaughtered and that the US needed an excuse to test it atmoic ability on someone we probably viewed as less human..the Japanese.
this is of course sarcasm but with a brutal truth. Nothing is solid anymore. People dont have honor OR respect. So no matter how valient a cause..someone will find power in questioning it in the form of political strength. All they have to do is make a solid reality questionable...something like the Moon landing. Then you can get any level pf power you can propagate to when no truth exist anymore.
So in this world we have leaders secured by the fact that nothing and no one can be held to any existing standard because with out "turth" no standard exist's..because no confidense in that system exist. So we are pretty much living in a standardless society in my opinion.
THe US had NAZI connections as people will now point out...all while reverberating the "fact" that every reason we went to war in WW2 was false.
Fuck the never ending questioning of government. Weve questioned it out of any thing usefull.
... living on and on and on devouring anything usefull in its path after its obvious ingornace of its own obsoleteness.
Its trying to secure that organizations will exist forever to combat inhumanity. then they lose the need to kill that inhumanity when they see its ends only secure that agency or organization no olonger itself will be needed .
Who would be incharge of Free Food for Humanity if we no longer had hungry people?
Probably why its much easier to get free food than a job at times. its the basic back bone of liberal compassion that sells everyone short on the million causes it backs.

ReplyId say N korea is farther along than Iran because they have atleast "tested" a nuclear weapon... The test wasn't a full failure... the explosion didn't happen on that large enough of a scale, but that doesn't mean it was a failure... Maybe they didn't want to waste a large amount of nuclear fuel for a test.. and save the large quantity for the real deal.... They do have a limited quantity of nuclear fuel... So I doubt they would want to waste much on a test. I read an article that said this may be why the explosion was so small.. It wouldn't exactly be wise to waste all your material on a test since it takes a long time to refine the material to replace whats used in a test.. Kim Jong Il is a moron. I think the guy just wants his own place in history and thats why they are developing the nuclear bomb. He would probly sacrafice all of his people for hitler like recognition...
Social security is dead... Its been dead for a long long time... Sure it will fuck all those old people that paid their dues if we discontinued it... but it also fucks us all in the ass that will never recieve a dime.. I that its a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kinda deal... I'll support dans comp till bmx companies start selling direct to their customers... |

Ya, but if you watch the new networks, you will realise the only people they report on dieing have been soldiers. You haven't seen or read one headline saying "October, bloodiest month ever for US Soldiers." I care that US soldiers are dying in Iraq, but this is a war/mission/operation/police action whatever it is. People are going to die. We don't need to be told.
Seriously, the last war we had with a low body count like this one was the Spanish American War aka the Splendid Little War. Thats why I gave the merry little war name.
US deaths in the S - A war, 450. War in Iraq, 3000 to date.
US casualties at the battle of Gettysburg, 7000-11000. Casualties of allies during D-Day, around 6000

ReplyThere were almost 50000 americans killed at the battle of gettysburg. I don't know where you're pulling your figures from but you're clearly very far off.
I've heard of both the iraqi death toll and the american death tolls being reported on all networks.
Jeff, I agree on the WW2 point. I just still have hints of optimism. I guess I'm just young.

Replyanother thing I have a problem with is the stupid ass fcc... if you don't want to watch something... change the channel... they make it out to be the fault of someone else that their children saw a boob on tv.. but is a boob really any less shocking to a child than people beating the shit out of eachother on a football field? since when did wonton violence become a lesser evil than sex? we can live with out violence, but the population wont go anywhere with out sex.... and its not like the tv doesn't have buttons on it to change the channel or gosh... even turn it off! The fcc is totally 100% unconstitutional... Its the governments way of keeping freespeech in check... Youd be hard pressed to get your own tv show on prime time tv that was about overthrowing the government... The fcc would regulate the shit out of it and put it on when no ones awake... Children see a lot more disturbing things out in public than they do on tv.. When I was growing up in detroit I remember seeing a homeless man taking a dump on the front porch of a boarded up house...
The death toll in iraq will never be a solid figure... because deaths happen the news doesn't cover or that aren't 100% directly related to combat... Children starving to death because their parents can't get out to get food because of the warzone out the front door don't get added to that death toll.. Nor do any of the other not so directly combat related deaths... I don't think any side of the issue has a right answer... its likely just partially educated guesses...
A good question I have is... Why are the elections in america are getting more and more tampered with as the years go on.. Yet no ones really doing anything to fix it? Ohio has had some serious cases of election fraud that never went public or were ever investigated... and the ones that were investigated are unsolved or forgotten... No one knows why that machine in southern ohio gave bush 2000 more votes than there were voters... The people that coded the machine just called it a glitch... but as anyone on here that understands computers knows that computers just add numbers, and they do it acuratly.. that was no glitch... that was intentional... its not really hard to make a program that counts things... that was actually one of the first programming labs I had in college was to make an application that counted votes.. it was very simple and easy to make.... The elections need to have a solid paper trail, and vote verification.. Perhaps after your vote is cast, that you get a letter in the mail verifying the accuracy of your vote... But even thats not fool proof... The unanimous ballot thing keeps the election in an state where it is easily tamered with.. I don't care if people know who I voted for.. and I think it would be a great thing if they tallied the votes with the voter names to verify that they were even legitimate votes.... but again, that wont happen for numerous reasons... again... damned if you do... damned if you don't...

This won't get change because you're going into speculation and conspiracy theories. You need solid evidence. Not some fringe website going "THEY WERE RIGGED" to prove your case with that. I highly doubt that this administration could tamper with the elections considering they have had that stupid valerie plume leak being chased about for around two years now.
