| I have a GT fly that I ride street with. The unsealed tubular cranks really suck... My cranks loosened up about after a week of first riding it, I tightened them pleanty of times but now its gotten to the point where my inner cone inside of my left crank arm is ground to shit. For me its really hard to find a balancing point on the bike but besides those things, its an ok bike. Destruction breeds creation. | |

| Finally I have seen everything, here is a topic I can actaully relate 2.K I have a gt bump right?this bike is a fuckin tank. They are definetly good bikes but mine was a 04 model so it had unsealed evrything, and the bike was really heavy, and this could be the most reliable bike if i had sealed bearings, besides that its was really good especially for a beginner,i would reccomend it for any noobie cuz its heavy ,and that gets u used to heavier bikes, and it could take a beating,i did some crazy shit and still holds up,so if ur new to bmx go for it ,the only problem i had was the unsealed shit but i only paid 150 for it,goodluck and now i ride fit TeAm Xo | |

umm so? It is designed for dirt but that doesn't mean it is impossible to ride street with... its a dirt based bike oh no oh no! jus slap two pegs on it and ride street. It is not like taking a racing bike with aluminum forks and going nose picking. Destruction breeds creation.

There are numerous differences between Dirt and Street bikes, this is mainly for -globe-, so don't think they are the same, just said to be used for something else. Main differences are strength, but not overall strength. With a dirt from, typically areas like drop-outs and the head tube are "thinner" mainly because they aren't going to get use for grinding or nose stalls and other typical street things. This also makes the bike lighter, which some would say is the big difference, but don't get confused, the main reason the weight is down is because added strength for a street beating is un-necessary, and there for taken out. Also Geometry and lengths are greatly different between Street and Dirt. Typically the top-tube and drop-out legth will be longer on a dirt bike, makes it much easier to jump. Also head angles are not as steep typically, the dirt frame may also hav more of a nose high look to it, or a greater overall tallness in general. More reasons that make them easier for going off jumps. Now-a-days though, street and dirt have really become almost one and the same. You will see dirt/street or street/dirt comboinations when looking at frames, depending on what is primary. Companies like Fit, FBM, Fly, S&M tend to make the majority of the street/dirt frames, seeing as their main factory riders tend to lean to a more mixed bmx style instead of just doing street, dirt, or park. Of course there are exceptions with in each company. Companies like Metal are more known for doing full-blown street bikes. Also another reason for street/dirt becoming one and the same as of late would be the move to light-weight predominance in the market. Remember the whole, Dirt frames are slightly weaker in street problem areas, so they carry less weight, this is where that comes to play. People now are more likely to take a weaker lighter frame, and deal with its defficiencies. Also when it comes to Bmx companies being better or not,the frame of 95% of bikes on the market are all quality. Its the parts on the frame that differientiate the companies, and as you have heard GT lacks in this area, but thats not a bad thing completely. It will teach you to take care of your bike, install new parts when the original inevitably breaks, and so on.
