	is it possible to retrive hard drive information when it has been formatted multiple times but no new data placed on top of it? Its a long story but I dont really want to explain the whole thing right now.

	Call a HDD recovery place. I know the FBI and CIA type investigating units can recover information off of formated hard-drives, as long as they haven't been over written. Wheter their technology is public is unknown to me.

I was under the impression that when you reformatted a drive, it erased all trace of anything that was ever on it, and brought it back to the state it was in when it was new... I could be wrong though. T.

	Yes you can! You can actually get a program that does this for free off of download.com... but it will take a long long time unless you buy it... it will only recover 1 file at a time until you buy it... Just do a google search for "surface scanner".... but good luck finding one for mac.... I've had to do the 1 file at a time recovery before... I actually have a peice of software that does exactly what your talking about on my pc right now... I just got done recoverying some files for someone yesterday.... its called "PC Inspector File Recovery" I may be able to help you out if you throw me a pm... if ya know what im saying... :wink: I'll support dans comp till bmx companies start selling direct to their customers...

	btw.... about how many times did they format your drive by chance?? and race-fit.... they can recover information off of drives that you use those programs that supposedly whipe the data and make it unrecoverable... those programs are worthless... I have a friend that went to MIT and did data recovery for the government... they have a machine that can read broken platters... it uses an infared laser or something to read the information off the surface of the drive.... so really the only way to make the data not recoverable is to smash it to peices and send the peices to different locations... I'll support dans comp till bmx companies start selling direct to their customers...

	The harddrive was wiped 8 times over acording the guys at the repair shop. and a new copy of OSX was installed, but not ever setup. So i basically have a wiped drive but i wasnt sure when a format was done multiple times if the drive is actually rewritten to 010101 etc or if the space available is just alocated to be rewritten over.
