Sprockets with more teeth are bigger.  Smaller sprockets give you higher gearing, make it easier to pedal the bike but l ower your top speed.

But if you a small sprocket for skatepark or anything you  will definatly need a new hub with a cassete freewheel or flip-flop, if you are looking for a new sprocket go to www.extreme-direct.co.uk or find some other places

smaller sprockets save weight and make it easier to do tricks like crooked grinds. of course with a smaller sprocket you need a smaller rear sprocket. there are gear ratio guidelines all over the place so i wont bother with it. the problem i have with these small sprockets is when they are really small, its alot of pressure on so little teet, and it tends to wear out the sprocket alot quicker.
