Maybe some of you use ebay and got the same email I received. It basically talks about a bill that would limit use of ebay. Members would have to pay $1000 a year to sell, and would be required to take auctioneering classes and become licensed to sell. Basically it would bring ebay down.

If you visit your ebay homepage you have a similar message which then asks you to join some affiliated ebay group that keeps you informed. However it's a third party that would then get information about all your transactions and other activity on ebay.

I'm curious what everyone thinks about this, and if anyone knows more about it. I just read the message now and am interested in learning more. I know for a fact that it would do most people absolutely no good to only allow high-volume sellers to be able to use ebay. It sounds to me like some more powerful retailers are using their power and influence over Congress to pass this into law to remove competition, but like I said, I haven't read into it a lot yet. What do you all think of this? Anyone know more about what's going on?

that would kill everything that made it good if ebay did that.

sounds like a bit of big buisness leaking into congress.

Ebay is sending out these emails (like the one I received) to get members to voice their opinion against this bill to their representatives. Ebay is highly against it, it really isn't something that is up to them. I don't know if you know this, but it sounds like maybe I wasn't clear enough if you say "if ebay did that". It's not something they want to happen.

wonder if an ebay clone can start up and its users wont have to worry about this. that is, if that site got around any patents ebay has regarding the way this form business is operated.

From what I've found this is only an Ohio law that might pass. And might not even apply to all sellers...only the ones who basically use ebay as a business.

^^ Interesting, thanks. I still haven't had the time to look into this more, with my  4 week summer class I'm taking (4 months of classes compressed into 4 weeks = a LOT of schoolwork everyday).

I guess that would explain why few other Pedal users got this email.
