I have a question. I was putting my compton together and after putting the fork on i noticed that the little lip on the bottom of the fork doesnt fit in the integrated headset right. I was wondering if this is because the forks are older and from a haro that had a normal headset. I really dont wanna buy a set of forks right now, but i also dont want shit to mess up. here is a pic...

the thing on the forks is crooked. you need to tap it down with a hammer so it is fluch with the top of the legs.

i had the same problem, mine was a bitch to get on and i ended up starting to crack it getting it on, i took it off, took a belt sander and sanded it down a little till it pushed on with a little hand force.

you need it to sit right or youll fuck ur whole frame and headset up.

u can file the fork by hand or with powertools

That is what i was thinking. The washer was flush, but there is a small flange on the steering tube that doesnt fit in it and knocks it out. Im gonna have to find a belt sander to do this with, i dont wanna do it by hand, and definitly dont wanna mess up my headset and frame.

I had the same problem, I bought my forks into the shop I work at and I used the press, you have to hammer the cone onto that little lip on the fork, you don't necessarily NEED a press, try rigging up something taht you can use to hammer the cone over the lip.

Yeah tap it in with a hammer but use a wood block dont you dont mess up your bearing race ( its where the bearings sit ) because if you tap that with just a hammer it will dent up the race. And if that dont work then Sand the fork down a lil bit just like everyone said .

chances are if u cant press it onto the fork with a rubber mallet with some easy taps, youll crack the race trying to get it on like i almost did, i did some filing and whala

I fixed it. the little lip on the forks was slightly to big, so about five minutes with a file and its fixed. head set is in fine, always was. just the fork had a lip on it that was to big.

Hit hard. use a tube that slides into your fork steering tube and use it to bash the headset ring. hard
