Like I said, how much gasoline do you have to waste making it? I doubt its actually making any gasoline... They're very likely just barely breaking even factoring in the amount of gasoline used to transport the cow dung, processing the cow dung, and then refining it into gas.... All those things require the burning of gas..

i guess you have to assume no gas is used in the process.

i once heard that Diesle came up with the idea of his engine to allow farmers to grow their own fuel. that still seems like the best idea to me. cut out the middle man, enough with the cow dung already

So are there people pushing wheelbarrows of shit across japan and dumping them into a large vat that has a mechanical piston pressing the shit down by means of a paddal wheel running in the river?
Thats a lot of shit to push by wheelbarrow... and The amount of shit you need for such a small amount of gas would very likely need to be moved by motor vehicle. And a large truck thats required to move the shit would probly not be getting very good gas milage... not to mention that no 1 farm would have enough cows to produce enough shit in 1 single place to make gas, so you would need to truck in shit from all over the country... and you would burn up thousands of gallons of gas, just to make 1... So they aren't really making gas... they've just found a way to move cow shit around with out wasting as much gas as they would driving it to a disposal site...

or if you set up the program so every motor used involving cow dung gathering is based on bio-diesel you solve that problem. The inport of cows to japan would be phenomenal.

It's true! When Deisel introduced hismotor at the Paris Worlds Fair in the early 20th century, he ran it on peanut oil. Ford originally wanted cars that ran on alcohol, or ethanol, or another kind of renewable resource. Tehy didn't want to do this to save the enviroment, but rather to help out the countries argo-economy (which was shrinking, but there was still plenty of money to be made off of it).
