Not really a God figure but I've never heard of anyone say Mohammad did not exist...but he's not a God figure either.

Actually Religions aren't defined as ways of bettering yourself (debate starts LOL, jk)

"Religion (see etymology below) is commonly defined as a group of beliefs concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions and rituals associated with such belief. It is sometimes used interchangeably with faith or belief system. In the course of the development of religion, it has taken many forms in various cultures and individuals.

Occasionally, the word "religion" is used in the more restrictive sense of "organized religion" – that is, an organization of people supporting the exercise of some religion, often taking the form of a legal entity (see religion-supporting organization).

(Important Part)

The definition of religion used here would exclude systems such as Advaita Hinduism and Theravada Buddhism, classifying them instead as philosophies."

(End of Important Part)

So you are both right and wrong, it depends on the context.

And the debate ends.

well from a scholarly point of view religions are said to require 4 things; institutions, practices/rituals, religious texts, and adherents. Since buddhism does indeed contain all these requirements its a straight out religion. ( Mary Pat Fisher, living religions 6th edition)

Ok so if the book you read (from a scholarly POV) on religion is being used in school, its in an institution; and the practice of reading a book from left to right; and containing religious texts in it to back up what it teaches; and the adherents (being the students, authors, philisophist, atheist, etc, and sometimes a teacher) of the book. All makes it a religion. So the book you read contains all the requirements of a religion according to (Mary Pat Fisher, living religions 6th edition).

In other words I just wasted the time of your life that it took to read that paragraph because I am bored. Absolutely nothing to do with debate, I just think weird. Seriously though I really didn’t pay attention to what was said in the thread I just skimmed through it.

Well they never really blamed Shinto either, or Polytheism from Greek, Roman, Egyptian, probobly have blamed Paganism, but I think they do call us Paganists. I don't think they've blamed Russian Orthodox either, but in all honesty, Cathlic, Orthodox (enter country name), Methodist, its all a form of Christianity in the end.
