What’s your take?
We all have our own opinions. And hell, most of us have no clue what to think. And I’m sure some of us don’t even believe there is a “purpose”, nor do they care.
But I’m going to be blatant and tell you why I think you’re here. It’s funny, because I am a firm believer of God, or a Creator, yet the concept of what I’m about to explain is very similar to the beliefs of those who chose to only trust what they’ve seen or felt.
Cause and Effect
I told someone the meaning of life once and they looked at me like: “Tell me something I don’t know”. Yet, each day, in and out… I’d watch them live a life that was so obviously, completely unaware of everything that was going on around them.
The Question: Why are we here? What is the purpose of life?
So many people have asked it over and over while the obvious answer surrounds them day in and day out. They know the truth. They just choose not to believe it because it’s easier to pretend ignorance. Then, maybe you will at least be held “less” accountable for our negative actions. So let’s go along and pretend there is some bigger, better reason for our own existence. :roll:
We’re all here to cause a reaction. Preferably a positive one.
Your purpose in life is to cause a positive reaction.
Cause = Reaction
Cause = Reaction
Cause = Reaction
Have I said it enough?
Everything you’ve ever done and ever will do has and always will be extremely important. We’d all be much better off if we went around living and truly believing this.
I’m not claiming to be perfect.
In fact, lately I’ve been far from it.
The birth of this obsession:
I was standing in line @ Celebration Station, waiting to get a drink. And I looked over to a near table to see a short, stumpy Hispanic woman disciplining what appeared to be her son with a dark scowl on her face. When she looked up and noticed me watching her, she gave me a quick smile and a polite nod. This was obviously a lazy attempt to change my mood, assuming she could read the expression on my face as well, in my displeasure @ seeing her behave so crude to such a young person.
It worked. My mood did change. But not because seeing her smile made me happy. But because I became aware of what she was attempting to do. Then I realized how much power we all really have. We all have the capacity to make our own decisions. But we all, to a certain extent, have the ability to control other people’s thoughts. At least kind of push them in the direction that we want.
Your purpose in life is to cause a positive reaction.
If that’s not the answer you’ve been looking for, too bad….
It’s already been firmly implanted.
I’d like to know what you’ve pondered about the subject, or what you’ve heard.
Hopefully, I will learn something and be able to further develop my own views and opinions.
My thoughts on this subject have no doubt grown almost uncontrollable, even to the extent of beliving that if we can get enough people on this planet to actually do some good, that we can actually start extending the lengths of our own lifes, eventually into an eternity, creating our own heaven on earth.
I haven't read much of the bible, but to me, it seems extreemly logical that our creator expects us to do so. Or at least, he/she knows that the possibility is there.
I stomp rambling now.
On a side note: Please take notice in the fact that I did not mention George Bush once. Please consider doing the same. :) Enjoy |

Technically you mentioning good old Dubya is making a mention of him.
To me the meaning of life is what ever you want to make of it, everyone should have there own view. Like Gensanity belives that he has to make some kind of impact, thats his meaning of being here, and for that I belive thats just a apart of life. I belive you should do what you do, and what you feel like you should do. For me that is making my mark on society, large or small, a mark non the less. And in that aspect I already have, but I would like to make a bigger impact in the future. Whatever though if I don't I don't feel as if I failed myself. Live everyday the way you want to live it, like its your last, or like its 32nd this year, do what you want.

there is no purpose, have we dont anything that significant yet in the past couple thousand years, not really, are we going to, probably not, especially not in our lifetime, there's no purpose, think of anything else living, it has no purpose either... religion is a false hope

or it could be to find things,and everything that you can do, that makes you happy,and you like doing,and is meaningful to you,and enjoyable,and worth it,and not a waste,or being whatever it is you have/do/feel/think.etc,i think its about finding things in your life that make it better,and more were you dont think negative or do negative things.To make things better for you. thats just what i think though. Does this mean that if you have three children during this lifetime and only murder two people that you still come out with a plus one in the end?
I agree with the cause /effect thing to a point but who says it has to be positive? Cause and effect can work both ways. Most of us would just prefer to go the positive rout.

I used to not really care about this, but then my nazi english teacher made me read a lame book and I sort of adopted the views expressed in it as my own, as to me, they make sense!
So we all live simply for the purpose of living. We basically live to survive. You see, if we were back to a more primal society (Which we are very, very far from), we would all be competing against each other to continue to be on this planet, and that is why we live. We have the instinct to survive, and thrive. Like in nature, survival of the fittest. It applies to people as well, and in my eyes serves as a very clear meaning of life. We are meant to live, and strive for greed (Despite all our attempts not to), as that is what makes us the most fit in modern society. Money. Most people will do anything for it, it is comparable to food out in the wild. I'm sure if we were less civilized, people would kill (Much more frequently) for money, as many animals in nature would (But for food).
I don't think this makes sense, because I am pretty bad at explaining things. Basically, we live so that we may outsurvive each other, until the day we are outsurvived by another being.
It sounds like a fairly bad explanation, but that is how about every other organism lives, so it leads me to believe it is how we were meant to live, but we somehow got off of the intended path, and created our own, causing a need to adapt our basic thought process, so we may still have the basic instinct of survival.
DAMN YOU CHARLES DARWIN! (Who stole his work from somebody else I believe, but I'm no history buff, so it doesn't matter.) My bike sucks... But it's all I got! |
